Job Description:

The principal function of a Ramp Coordinator is to provide leadership, support, and direction to a group of Employees in the areas of technical expertise, customer service, and operational demands. Decisions will be made first and foremost with a focus on safety and an eye to on-time performance and planning for any irregular operations proactively. They are a full working member of the group performing the duties of a Ramp Attendant as well as any related administrative duties. Additional responsibilities include input into Employee scheduling and assignment, on-the-job training, and instruction.

This is a rotational position. 3 weeks on, 3 weeks off, 12-hour days, 7 days a week for the rotations. Your three weeks "on" will be based in Iqaluit, NU. Rotational travel assistance and accommodation are provided.

Level: As per the UNIFOR Collective Agreement.

Pay Rate: Starting at $21.00 per hour, plus a Coordinator premium of $4.25 as per the UNIFOR Collective Agreement or commensurate with experience.

Reporting to: Manager, Cargo & Ramp.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Must be able to perform, but not be limited to, the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide input into Employee scheduling and assignment, on the job training and instruction;
  • Ensure that Company policies and procedures are adhered to, and deviations to same shall be reported to management;
  • Provide leadership, support and direction to a group of employees;
  • Carry out related administrative duties;
  • Maintain records as required;
  • Record flight arrival and departing times;
  • Conduct radio communications with the aircraft;
  • Process weight and balance and load control data;
  • Disseminate information;
  • Perform load service duties;
  • Handle all cargo;
  • Perform service for aircraft on the ground including De-icing;
  • Perform all warehouse related duties;
  • Assist Cargo Agents or Cargo Attendants if so required; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Include, but not limited to, the following minimum skills and qualifications:

  • Previous supervisory experience required;
  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent related work experience;
  • Must be knowledgeable of cargo handling and processing procedures;
  • Knowledge and experience of loading and load control on company aircraft;
  • Weight & balance knowledge and experience necessary;
  • Knowledge of Canadian North’s Cargo Computer Program, Cargo Ramp Procedures Manual and Sabre;
  • Must be familiar with handling of dangerous goods and be able to obtain and retain a dangerous goods handling certificate;
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license;
  • Demonstrated strong communication, organizational, problem solving & interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to accomplish multiple tasks in high pressure, high volume environment;
  • Proven customer service skills;
  • Forklift driving experience;
  • Must be able to obtain and retain a "D" towing permit and radio license;
  • Ability to communicate in Inuktitut a definite asset; and
  • Ability to obtain and retain an Airport Restricted Area Identity Card in accordance with the Airport Restricted Area Access Clearance Program regulated by Transport Canada.
