Job Description:
Looking for an energetic and driven technician to support the development of our assembly processes, build new engines in development assembly, apply instrumentation to hardware, and perform work scope within the test cell or and on the engines during test campaigns. This role will partner with all engineering functions, supply chain, EHS and various cross-functional leadership on a daily basis to deliver test results that enable the team to validate the engine design.
Key Responsibilities:
- Complete the assembly and disassembly of components and modules for rig testing and engine testing.
- Assemble and disassemble rigs, engines, test enabling systems, and facility systems for development testing.
- Install instrumentation on engine hardware and within facilities including (but not limited to) thermal couples, pressure transducers, strain gauges, accelerometers, etc.
- Support the design and facilities teams on how to incorporate the instrumentation in the component design, engine design, and facility.
- Complete mechanical and electrical work scope on rigs and in test cells such as installing electrical cables, connecting pipes and fittings, terminating instrumentation, supporting electrical panel buildouts, leading checkout procedures, and integrating all rig or test cell subsystems to the facility, data acquisition systems, and engine vehicle.
- Support the creation of checkout and test procedures for rig, engine, and facility operations.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and/or instrumentation-related issues, and support creating work instructions for assembly/disassembly of engine hardware, test enabling hardware, and integration of rigs or test vehicles into the test cells.
- Support the overall test campaign including requirements, schedules, budgets, test operations, risk management, hardware, and instrumentation procurement.
- Support processes to capture test data, visualize, store, and post-process the data.
- Support the design, construction, and operation of mechanical and electrical systems required to support testing, data acquisition, and data processing, and the development of new test facilities
- Support design reviews and coordinate with other disciplines in design, performance, controls, and system analysis to develop appropriate test systems
- Support the design and/or procure mechanical and electrical equipment necessary to enable engine assembly/disassembly and test activities, including test-enabling hardware
- Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments. Lead root cause and corrective action plans based on learnings to drive process improvements and document best practices.
- Assure proper documentation of technical data generated consistent with engineering best practices
- Work with suppliers to procure hardware, and software, and resolve producibility and quality issues
Desired Qualifications:
- Mechanical and/or electrical experience building rigs, gas turbines, and/or working in development test cells.
- At least 4 years of experience in aerospace, aviation, and/or gas turbine testing
- Strong understanding of assembly processes, instrumentation integration, and testing with new products and technologies
- Experience working with gas turbines for aviation product applications from a test perspective.
- Passion for working in new technology testing environments, delivering results, and communicating those results to influence critical design and/or business decisions
- Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
- Demonstrated problem-solving ability and execution skills
- Proven self-starter and quick learner who can work in fast-paced cross-functional teams.
