Job Description SummaryThe Mechanical Design Engineer will be assigned exhaust system hardware ownership to execute design tasks and leverage/build mechanical design skillset. Engineer will also be required to mentor and lead less experienced team members. Primary design effort in the next 12 months will include weight reduction efforts and resolution of unresolved design issues in preparation for upcoming Detailed Design Reviews and to support Concurrent Product Design releases for long lead hardware. Exhaust system design requires much system integration. As a result, this design role will provide exposure and collaboration with Performance, Controls, Externals, and the airframer.
The hardware encompasses all types of manufacturing such as castings, additive, laser drilling, hot forming, fabrication and includes a range of materials from nickel, cobalt, and titanium based alloys as well as CMCs.Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.
- Developing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute policy/strategy.
- In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. In-depth understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
- Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance. Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Has access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.
- A job at this level is likely to be an individual contributor with proven interpersonal skills or an early people leader who can hire and develop talent. Provides informal guidance to new team members.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical, Aero, or other similar engineering degree from an accredited university or college
Minimum of 3 years experience in design engineering
Ability to obtain and maintaining a Department of Defense security clearance
Desired Characteristics
- Minimum of 5 years experience in design engineering
- Demonstrated experience in Stress Analysis (ANSYS)
- Hardware experience
- Design creativity
- Knowledge and understanding of GD&T, manufacturing, producibility
- Demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills with ability to organize, motivate, guide and influence technical personnel and projects
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
