Job Description
  • Perform composite layups, fabrication, and assembly for a variety of composite parts for Airbus. This role involves working with various materials and tools to create and assemble composite and metal parts, ensuring they meet engineering and manufacturing specifications.
Responsibilities
  • Lay out, assemble, pre-fit, and bond a variety of metal, composite, or laminate fabrications, assemblies, parts, skins, or equipment.
  • Follow engineering and manufacturing specifications and orders to determine parts to be bonded and the required temperature and pressure.
  • Cut parts or materials to size.
  • Operate autoclaves, hydraulic presses, and ovens to complete the bonding cycle.
  • Sand, burr, and smooth over areas; apply sealing resins to cut or exposed edges.
  • Perform process methods and sequences that vary depending on compounds, contours, and lay-up transitions.
  • Perform complicated rework or repair as needed.
  • Monitor and verify quality in accordance with controlled procedures.
  • Utilize lay-up tools, including both optical and hard tools, in the fabrication of composite and metal assemblies.
  • Obtain required information from prints, charts, sketches, work orders, documents, verbal, and electronic information.
  • Use shop mathematics and precision measuring instruments to complete work assignments.
  • Verify work performed is per work instruction and meets process and/or engineering specifications.
  • Ensure equipment and tool certification occurs per procedure.
  • Use and control solvents and cleaning solutions in the preparation of details, tools, and assemblies for bonding and paint per established procedures.
  • Perform routine minor machine maintenance as part of daily work duties.
  • Routinely move product within the immediate manufacturing work area, including across-isle using shop-assigned equipment.
  • Complete transactions necessary to move product to the next operation.
  • Support the continuous flow of product within the manufacturing process by training and assisting other employees.
  • Train to become MVP qualified.
  • Complete other duties and responsibilities as required by leadership. Training and certification will be provided for additional work.
Essential Skills
  • Experience in composite fabrication and composite layup
  • Experience in aerospace or aviation industries
  • Knowledge of composite materials, vacuum, epoxy, and lamination processes
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with autoclaves, hydraulic presses, and ovens
  • Familiarity with shop mathematics and precision measuring instruments
  • Ability to follow engineering and manufacturing specifications

Work Environment

Shifts are available as follows: 1st shift from 7am to 3:30pm, 2nd shift from 3pm to 11:30pm, and 3rd shift from 11pm to 7:30am. Employees work 8 hours a day and 7 days a week, with a rotation of working 2 weekends on and 1 weekend off. The aerospace manufacturing environment is very clean, with employees standing and working on lifts all day. Assembly work is performed in work centers with team sizes ranging from 7 to 12 people. The work culture is positive, and employees enjoy their work despite the repetitive nature and long hours.

This is a Contract position based out of Kinston, North Carolina.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $33.00 - $40.75/hr.
