Electronics & Lethality Hardware Staff Mechanical Engineer
Sterling Heights, MI
Contract Position
Join a team dedicated to designing and producing armored combat and support vehicles. As a prime mover in ground force capabilities, this firm provides innovative solutions that ensure the safety and effectiveness of military personnel worldwide, focusing on durability, mobility, and performance.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, analyze, and release mechanical components and subsystems for military electro-optical products.
- Develop mounting provisions for optical elements and subassemblies, fire control sensors, and electro-mechanical mechanisms, including hand controllers, gyros, accelerometers, periscopes, and sighting systems.
- Conduct material selection, perform detailed design work, and analyze coatings and opto-mechanical features to optimize performance.
- Lead projects, performing design and analysis, generating data for engineering changes, and providing prototype and production support.
- Present design concepts and program updates to functional and program management.
- Test and evaluate electro-optical components, develop future concepts, and support business development activities, including Independent Research and Development (IRAD) efforts.
- Ensure commonality of design across all product lines and collaborate with teams on integration and cross-leveling of electro-optical hardware.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering required; advanced degree highly desired.
- 9+ years of relevant experience (preferred in sights and electro-optics); less experience considered with an advanced degree.
- Solid modeling experience with NX and Creo; fluency in Teamcenter and Vis Mockup highly desired.
- Experience leading engineering teams in developing and building electro-optical subsystems and components.
- Familiarity with military vehicles, heavy vehicle platforms, or industrial electro-optics applications preferred.
- Experience with supplier quality management and auditing test requirements.
- Ability to climb into military vehicles, travel, and work overtime as required.
