Experimental Aircraft Mechanic (Full Time)

POSITION SUMMARY:
Perform an extensive and wide variety of duties within the Experimental Test Operations
environment as it relates to the program test assets. Follow Engineering work orders to
perform the following; fabricate, assemble, and install aircraft components. Work performed can be of
a prototype or conformity article in nature, and in accordance with engineering drawings and sealed
drawing lists respectively. Setup, repair, and troubleshoot aircraft engines and systems to ensure
aircraft is airworthy. Interact as necessary with Government Agencies during company development
programs. Work independently or with minimal direction from Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
•Work from and follow work orders, blueprints, rework/rejection reports, Aircraft Production Orders, schematics, modifications sheets, engineering orders, Piper Production Spec (PPS), test pilots "squawks", Material Review Board, and verbal/written instruction
•Be constantly aware of both aircraft and personnel movement throughout the entire operation area
•Must possess or be able to acquire current aircraft taxi and tow authorization
•Provide recommendation to improve methods, equipment performance, and quality of product during prototype development testing
•Perform initial engine set up and adjustments
•Assist engine manufacturer representatives in replacing external engine accessories
•Responsible for the aircraft flight release inspection and appropriate documentation
•Make structural repairs using accepted practices (PPS, AC43-13.lb)
•Prepare aircraft for flight testing in various configurations as defined by engineering work order
•Using principles of flight control systems/surfaces balancing and re-balancing, perform necessary checks and tests as required by work order instructions
•Perform weight and balance procedures and calculations on both flight test and static test articles
•Maintain all aircraft systems in accordance with the applicable aircraft maintenance manual or as directed by engineering
•Troubleshoot and analyze aircraft electrical systems, circuit protection, and control devices
•Perform aircraft servicing as required prior to flight or at the request of the responsible Flight Test Engineer
•Be aware of the special explosive devices utilized in the emergency egress portions of the aircraft
•Maintain all necessary records, files, and reports
•Scrutinize every facet of job and report improper operation, faulty equipment, defective materials, and unusual conditions to Team Leader
•Use and maintain tools in accordance with the company tool control procedure
•Perform housekeeping and 5S on a daily basis or as defined by management, other duties as assigned by management
•Participate in general project meetings as required during the development of a specific project
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
•This position will not have any direct supervisory responsibilities

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
•Required: Three years experience in an aircraft manufacturing or maintenance position
•Requires comprehensive knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements
•Must have working knowledge of Windows based computer programs
Preferred:
•A&P certificate preferred
