POSITION SUMMARY

The Lead Inspector is responsible to the Chief Inspector for the determination of the airworthiness of work assigned to him

JOB RESPONSIBLITIES

  • To assist, supervise and direct all personnel assigned to the inspection department. It will be his duty to ascertain that all inspections are properly performed and all completed work before it is released to the customer, and that the proper inspection records, report and forms used by the repair station are properly executed.
  • To collect and maintain a file on work orders and inspection forms in such a manner that the specific file pertaining to an assembly or unit can be located within a reasonable length of time.
  • The making of periodic checks on all inspection tools and the calibration of precision test equipment.
  • To develop and maintain a system of keeping records of checks and calibration of inspection tools and precision test equipment, and taking steps to insure that the established check periods are not exceeded.
  • The proper execution of Forms FAA 337 and the maintenance release pertinent to all items released to service by the repair station.
  • The preliminary, hidden damage, inspection continuity, and final inspection of all items processed by EEJS.
  • The proper tagging and identification of all parts.
  • To ensure that rejected and unserviceable parts, after proper identification, are returned to the customer, or with the customer’s permission, are properly disposed of.
  • To ensure that metallurgical tests are performed on items, when necessary, to ensure airworthiness, or to determine a cause of failure.
  • To ensure that all materials subject to shelf life are properly controlled, inspected on a regular basis and removed from service when the shelf life expires.
  • The Lead Inspector will be properly certificated in accordance with FAR Part 65.
  • In his absence, all duties of the Lead Inspector may be delegated by him to any qualified personnel as necessary. However, such delegation does not relieve him of the overall responsibilities.
  • Performs special assignments and projects, as directed by the Chief Inspector.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Education:

  • High School/ GED
  • Desired: A..S. degree in Aviation
  • A&P License.

Experience:

  • Generally at least 8 years of experience or greater in area of responsibility 5 years or more experience as an aircraft A&P Mechanic.
  • Several years’ prior Inspector work experience with aerospace quality systems that meet FAA requirements.
  • Experience working with and interpreting, precision measurement instruments.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Assignments require Advanced Knowledge of all possible tasks and responsibilities within their Technical area as well as a strong understanding of External Regulations and Functional Work Standards that affect Technical Requirements and Outputs.
  • Role takes leadership for applying new processes and skills to improve the Technician Function Status Quo.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their uses, repairs and maintenance.
  • Quality Control Analysis — Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
  • Troubleshooting — determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service.
  • Knowledge of FAA requirements for aircraft maintenance procedures
  • Ability to interpret and comprehend manufacturer and FAA approved work package instructions; ability to inspect and install parts/components.

Working Conditions / Environment/ Special Requirements

  • Ability to work in a safe professional manner adhering to all regulatory requirements including, OSHA, EPA, State and Federal regulations.
  • As required by the position, must have the ability to wear a respirator as per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 "Respirator Protection" regulations with no restrictions that would prevent the proper use and/or seal of the respirator.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and different shifts if required
  • Employees will be subject to the random drug and alcohol testing under FAA regulations
