Job Description:

DRS Pivotal Power, Inc. is located in Bedford, Nova Scotia. DRS Pivotal Power is a leader in the design, development and manufacture of high reliability power conversion equipment for mission critical applications supporting all branches of the military in Canada, the US and many countries abroad. All products are designed and manufactured in house by our growing team of over 90 employees. Job Summary

Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Engineer is primarily responsible for working with the Engineering team on the mechanical design and drafting for modern power conversion equipment

As Mechanical Engineer, your main responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
  • Design, fabricate and modify mechanical and/or electromechanical components, sub-systems and systems.  May include Mechanical, Thermal, and both static and dynamic simulation.  
  • Evaluate and recommend design approaches to meet customer requirements for new or improved products or services.  
  • Investigate solutions to product or process problems. 
  • Design, develop, analyze, document and support testing of products, systems or subsystems. Knowledge of military standards, including but not limited to MIL-STD-810, MIL-S-901, MIL-STD-167-1A, MIL-STD-1472 considered an asset.
  • Employ computer-aided engineering or other design/analysis software in the performance of assignments.  
  • Specify and evaluate mechanical components, subsystems and services.
  • Develop prototypes to evaluate designs.
  • Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and customers as required.
  • Provide technical knowledge and assistance to other engineers and support personnel.
  • Lead and direct the work of others as assigned.
  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization. 
What you require to be successful in the role:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field
  • 3+ years professional experience in mechanical related projects
  • A P. Eng. designation, or working towards P. Eng. designation, and eligible for registration with Engineers NS
  • Experience with Solid Works is preferred, other CAD software considered
  • Computer literate with knowledge of MS-Office word-processing and spreadsheet programs
  • Ability to produce quality technical work
  • Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Work effectively as a member of a team
  • Familiarity with the application of military and commercial standards to electrical designs is required
  • Demonstrated understanding and strong interests in the packaging of power electronics and power converter design
  • Strong ability to analyze, record, and interpret test data to determine product acceptability.
