Job Description:

NDT Shop Technician Level II will maintain and return aircraft to service in accordance with manufacturer instructions, FAA Standards, Company Repair Station Manual, NDT Operating Procedures, and Written Best Practices within the NDT required work scope. Supervision and training of NDT shop Level II, Level I, and trainee personnel.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Conduct inspections of newly designed or revised products.
  • Conduct inspections of incoming products to ensure proper paperwork is received and parts conform to specifications, engineering, and purchase orders.
  • Perform in-process inspection of parts being manufactured.
  • Set up and standardize equipment, conduct tests, interpret, and evaluate for acceptance or rejection, and document.
  • Communicate with the lead on progress and issues
  • Lead, schedule, and instruct NDT shop Level I and trainee personnel in various methods used.
  • Demonstrate proper work methods.
  • Obtain needed information or decisions from supervisors.
  • Check on work while in progress.
  • Assure safety and housekeeping rules are followed.
  • Perform assigned duties with integrity to ensure quality standards are met on all required inspections and work assignments.
  • Accurately record all work accomplished on numbered work orders in the area of responsibility and to attach finished work items and components with serviceable parts tag or maintenance release tag approved by an authorized signature.
  • Ensure that work performed by the Repair Station is in compliance with all applicable Federal Aviation Regulations, technical data and company policies.
  • Maintain appropriate Level II NDT certification(s)
  • Duties may be delegated as appropriate; however, such delegation does not relieve the Level II of responsibility.

Additional Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform as an NDT instructor for training programs and aid in the development of Neptune's NDT training program.
  • Assume Shop Lead duties when the Shop Lead is absent.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Assists in the creation of estimates and invoices for work performed for outside customers.

Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:

  • Ability to think analytically and be a problem solver.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and in speaking with customers, co-workers, and various business contacts in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Knowledge of the work of associated trades such as sheet metal, painting, aircraft electrical, electronics, and aircraft engine work to determine when work can safely be performed, be able to calculate time and work space required in order to coordinate the work of other mechanics, and determine when the work is properly done and signed off so that the aircraft, appliance, or system is airworthy.
  • Desire for professional growth beyond a level II inspector/technician with the NDT Shop Lead position as an objective.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of products.

Job Requirements:

Any combination equivalent to the following would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to qualify.

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Certificate.
  • Documented classroom training with on-the-job experience in accordance with the NAS 410 to qualify as Level 2 for one or more methods (PT, MT, UT, and/or ET.)
  • Be willing and able to pass the qualification exams administered by the Company’s Responsible Level III.
  • Must have exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Operational knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability and desire to obtain a Repairman certificate (14CFR 65) through the Repair Station.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in Aviation or equivalent NDT experience.
  • Become level II certified IAW Neptune Aviation's NDT written practice in liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, eddy current, and ultrasonic inspection methods.

Desired Qualifications:

  • FAA-certified Airframe and Power-plant Mechanic (14CFR 65) (Highly Desired)
  • ASNT certified Level II in PT, MT, ET, and UT methods.
  • Four-year bachelor’s degree in either Engineering or Science. (Example: BS Aeronautics)
  • Strong interest in becoming ASNT Level III qualified.
  • US DOT Medical

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Pass near vision acuity and color perception test.
  • Work at heights on ladders, work stands, and man-lifts.
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals, solvents, grease, and machine/aircraft fluids is possible in the workplace.
  • Work assignments require moderate to strenuous effort.
  • Be able and willing to climb, bend, stoop, crawl, and stand for prolonged periods on concrete or metal surfaces.
  • Frequently lift parts and equipment that weigh up to 25 pounds.
  • Occasionally lift and carry items that weigh about 50 pounds. Heavier weights may be lifted with mechanical lifting devices or assistance from other workers.
  • Work is performed in hanger areas, outdoors, and in hazardous noise areas.
  • Exposure to extremes in heat, cold, and inclement weather.
  • Work in confined spaces and in awkward positions.
  • Exposure to dirt, dust, grease, and aircraft fluids is common in the workplace.
