The successful Plane Captain performs aircraft handling, servicing, daily and turn around inspections as required. Provides pre-operational inspections and fuels ground support equipment, technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to employees in the Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper classifications.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Performs the duties and responsibilities of the Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper classifications.
- Performs daily and turn around inspections as required to the applicable procedures.
- Initiates and completes applicable maintenance forms.
- Performs Aircraft fuel sampling/servicing as required IAW established procedures.
- Launches and recovers aircraft.
- Serves as aircraft taxi director during launch and recovery operations.
- Aircraft towing and act as aircraft brake rider when required.
- Ties down and covers aircraft utilizing established procedures.
- Provides technical, assistance, guidance and instruction as required.
- Utilizes two-way communication equipment as required.
- Ensures compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress
- Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
- Ensures compliance with all established general and industrial safety rules and regulations as applicable to the contract, facility, and job assignment.
- Ensures safety, security and preservation of government and company owned equipment.
- Provides courteous and professional customer service.
- Operates portable firefighting equipment.
- Maintains the cleanliness of the work center.
- Performs other qualified duties as assigned.
- Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Two (2) or more years’ experience in aviation maintenance and / or flight line operations.
- Must have valid Driver’s License.
- Must be able to obtain/maintain any company/government required qualification, certification, licensing, or security clearance.
- Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate the English language and follow verbal and written instruction.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable safety and maintenance manuals.
- Thorough working knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling, common hand tools and normal operational safety requirements of the aircraft.
- Must be able to work any assigned shift and schedule.
- Ability to travel in support of cross-country rescues and detachments of unknown duration.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONSPhysical Demands:This classification activity requires the scope of physical movements and postures normally associated with shop/hanger/flight line maintenance activities to include bending, stooping, walking, climbing, pushing, stretching, kneeling, and working in tiring, uncomfortable positions, etc. Ability to use eye hand coordination and manual dexterity. May be required to lift objects whose weight normally will not exceed 70 pounds. Ability to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for extended periods throughout the day. Must have close vision to include color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to hear at the normal range. May require the use of respirator.
Work Environment:The diversity of work conditions may range from an environment where there is little or no physical discomfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject individual to severe changes of temperature, wind, rain, etc. May be required to work in areas where high noise hazards prevail. May be exposed to electrical shock hazards. May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
