Roles and Responsibilities
- Ownership includes both quality assurance and quality control. Includes quality assurance of products, services, manufacturing processes. Includes conformance in manufacturing, incoming goods control, product inspection, witness points, etc.
- Includes direct people management responsibility including staffing and performance development.
- Ensures adequate staffing of quality inspectors and technicians to meet business needs. Conduct training on quality control methods for lab analysts and other plant employees.
- Develops, validates, qualifies, and implements laboratory methods for product, in-process, and raw material analysis.
- Utilizes in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline and analytical thinking and technical experience to execute policy/strategy.
- Uses some judgment and has some ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters to address more complicated manufacturing processes with technical variety and/or interdependent production cycles. Uses technical experience and analytical thinking.
- May lead small projects with low risks and resource requirements.
- Conveys performance expectations and may handle sensitive issues.
- Ensures preventive maintenance and calibrations are current for all laboratory equipment.
- Troubleshoots faulty equipment and coordinates timely repairs.
- Evaluates and installs new laboratory equipment as needed.
- Identifies and implements quality control improvements such as QMS changes, method simplification, waste reduction, or yield improvements.
- Investigates quality incidents and leads root cause analysis and corrective action implementations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (or a high school diploma / GED + a minimum of 10 years of manufacturing experience)
- Minimum of 5 years of quality experience.
Desired Characteristics
- Ceramics, Chemistry, or Metallurgy degree from an accredited university or college.
- Expertise with microscopy including SEM, tensile testing, and GPC.
- Experience in a certified materials testing lab.
- Experience with polymer testing.
- Experience in MSA.
- Experience with laboratory information management systems.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001/ AS9100 Auditor training.
- Training and certification in Six Sigma or similar methodology a plus.
