We are looking for a skilled and experienced Composite Mechanical Design Engineer who can help pave the way for all future composite designs. The successful candidate will have support of leadership and will nurture less experienced composite design engineers. This role is vital to the development of our next generation of aircraft engines.
This position has the flexibility of optional hybrid schedule once fully trained. The hybrid schedule consists of working in the office minimum of 3 days per week and the option to work from home on the other days, based on team/project schedules.Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Identify, develop, evaluate, and introduce engineering solutions to meet near term and long range engineering needs around composite airfoils and their mating metallic components.
- Provide technical consultation on product problems throughout the business including supplier and field support.
- Lead and provide the key technical direction to large projects with critical business impact.
- Maintain an active role in developing and defining the state of the art in own technical specialty to anticipate, apply, adapt or develop technologies for product introduction, quality, performance, cost improvements and problem resolution in meeting current and future business needs including adherence to schedules and estimated costs.
- Support other GE businesses, internal and external customers, and suppliers as required.
- Provide technical consultation to cross-functional teams throughout the business to improve or resolve manufacturing, product center, supplier, or field issues.
- Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation and presentation of technical data to internal and external GE customers using reports, records, and letters.
- Use knowledge and expertise to market winning proposals in anticipation of business product needs.
- Prepare invention disclosures and guide others to protect technology that gives the business a competitive advantage, as well as protecting the intellectual property rights of the company.
- Provide technical guidance, direction, and training to new and experienced engineers, specialists, technicians and co-ops/interns.
- Serve as a recognized leader in defining the state of the art in composite component design to anticipate, develop and apply technology to current and future business opportunities.
- Function as program manager when appropriate.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university.
- At least 5 additional years of experience in an engineering position.
Desired Characteristics

- Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.
- Ability to document, plan, market and execute programs.
- Demonstrated leadership in defining the state of the art in at least one technical specialty, along with the ability to teach and set standard practices within this field.
- Significant Composite design experience.
- FMEA (ANSYS solver, Hypermesh software, and CAD Modeling via NX PLM Teamcenter software) experience.
- Programing skills (C++, MATLAB, Python, … or other equivalent software).
