General Description
Support daily repair and manufacturing operations for incoming workload for C-5, C-17, C-130, F-15, J-STARS, RQ-4, Global Hawk and other workload as required. Mixed position performing duties of a sheet metal mechanic and aircraft mechanic.
Duties
- Evaluate structural damage to aircraft sheet metal systems or items to be manufactured, repaired, or modified
- Examine aircraft and metal structures to locate cracks, breaks, holes, bulges, etc.
- Determine type and extent of repairs needed to restore original strength to components
- Plan and layout work from blueprints, sketches, drawings, work orders, etc.
- Develop patterns and layout, cut form, join, assemble, and install metal parts, items, and assemblies
- Use mathematics to determine curves, angles and pitch
- Work with various kinds of metal including magnesium, honeycomb material, galvanized and black iron, aluminum and aluminum alloys, etc.
- Make repairs by manufacturing new parts and reinforcing, patching and replacing defective parts.
- Other duties as assigned
Education/Experience Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must have at least four years of recent verifiable experience
- Knowledge of the characteristics and properties of metals used in the trade
- Knowledge of the makeup, operation, installation, and adjustment of a variety of major interrelated and/or integrated aircraft systems, subsystems, and assemblies
- Knowledge in use of basic hand and power tools such as hammer, chisels, hand snips, band and circle saws, box and pan brakes, rotary machines, welding equipment, etc.
- Experience using measuring instruments such as protractors, calipers, snap ring, screw pitch gauges, and other hand measurement devices
- Experience in use of shop mathematics and principles
- Must be a US Citizen
- Must be able to pass a background check, which could include a criminal history and credit check for access to Government facilities.
- Must have or be able to obtain a Secret Clearance.

- Must be able to see imperfections, micrometer readings and other small scales.
- Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
- Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depth.
- May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, fork lift, APU, etc.
