Job Description:
The Sheet Metal Mechanic will follow all applicable Company processes and procedures, instructions, guidelines, and technical data in performance of their duties.
- Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
- Inspects aircraft fuselage, flight surfaces, and components for damage, corrosion, loose or missing fasteners using specialized measurement tools for detailed documentation.
- Performs structural repairs based on engineering repair procedures or Structural Repair Manual information.
- Fabricates and installs parts, reinforces, patches, and replaces defective parts.
- Interprets blueprints and engineering specifications to perform aircraft structural modifications based on drawings and technical data.
- Must be able to provide engineering detailed measurements and recognize material and hardware types to ensure correct applications.
- Performs complex mathematics to determine curvature, angles, pitch, and be skilled with metal forming tools and instruments.
- Manufactures required tooling and shop aides in accordance to available drawings necessary to perform work assignments and meet AS9100 standards.
- Uses hand and powered tools properly and safely for mechanical stripping, sanding, bucking, cutting, and all structures related actions.
- Strips fuselage surfaces, panels, and parts to substrate using mechanical and chemical stripping methods.
- Prepares aluminum fuselage surfaces, panels, and parts for conversion coating, primer, and top coat in accordance to MILSPECs and manufactures instructions.
- Must be proficient at making precision mixture of coatings, adhesives, and sealants.
- The applicant must pass a respiratory exam and wear a fitted respirator for these processes and applications when directed by SDS, drawings, technical data, or supervisors.
- Provides own basic and specialty tools needed to perform daily assignments.
- Tool boxes will comply with DCMA Instruction 8210.series to maintain tool control at all times.
- Supports and practices Foreign Object Elimination/Foreign Object Debris control measures in accordance with FAA and DCMA Instruction 8210.series requirements.
- Must understand and apply Safety Data Sheets (SDS) associated with hazardous materials required in support of aircraft maintenance.
- The applicant must pass a respiratory exam and wear a fitted respirator for these processes and applications when directed by SDS, drawings, technical data, or supervisors.
Job Requirements:
EXPERIENCE, SKILL, AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of directly related aircraft experience.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Exposed to typical Aircraft Repair Facility conditions such as: engine noises, riveting, dust and chemical fumes none of which to the extent of being intolerable.
- Hearing, vision and breathing protection provided in appropriate areas.
- Working areas naturally ventilated and mechanically heated when required.
- Work may be performed while exposed to elements of weather.
PHYSICAL & MENTAL CONDITIONS:
- Requires lifting of items weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds on a continuous basis.
- Requires lifting of items weighing up to sixty (60) pounds on an occasional basis.
- Requires physical effort associated with standing / walking / sitting.
- Requires the ability to twist, bend, squat, climb and / or other body movements to successfully accomplish the requirements of the position.
- Requires kneeling on occasion, in performance of job duties.
- Requires the use of either or both hands for grasping items, manual dexterity is required, and the ability to push / pull; i.e., open / close file cabinets and / or handle machinery.
- Requires the ability to reach above shoulder height in accomplishing job tasks.
- Requires the ability to walk on uneven surfaces.
- Requires the use of either foot or both for operation of foot controls of machinery.
Salary Range:
$28/hr.-$30/hr.
