Job Description SummaryIn this role, the Staff Engineer will be part of an Integrated Product Team focused on product development in Military Engineering. This role will share in the responsibility for guiding the technical design and execution of a new military product design, leading projects and programs in the functional area, driving LEAN principles to improve the ways the team works. This role will interact daily with a multidisciplinary team of engineers including Mechanical, Aerodynamics, Heat Transfer, Material Sciences, and Engine Systems. The Staff Engineer will be required to push the boundaries of what is possible with the latest technologies and materials developed at GE Aerospace. The role has moderate autonomy, requiring high levels of operational judgment.Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Lead and execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of select hardware using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.
- Develop specialized knowledge in exhaust systems discipline. Serve as best practice/quality resource. Have awareness of latest technical developments. Contribute towards strategy and policy development, and ensure delivery within area of responsibility.
- Have in-depth knowledge of best practices and how assigned responsibilities integrate with others; have working knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market
- Use judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Take new perspectives on existing solutions. Use technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations. Use multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.
- Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements. Explain difficult or sensitive information; work to build consensus. Develop persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university or college
- Minimum 5 years experience in design engineering
- Active or able to maintain a DoD Security Clearance at the Secret level or higher.
Desired Characteristics
- Masters degree and in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Gas turbine engine exhaust and/or hot structures design experience
- Hardware ownership experience
- Existing US Government security clearance
- Proven analytical and organizational ability
- Established project management skills.
- Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.
- Effective problem identification and solution skills
- Lead initiatives of moderate scope and impact
- Ability to influence others and lead small teams
- Strong technical aptitude related to components and systems of increasing complexity
