Structures Inspector I
Partners with Production teams in the manufacture of high-quality aircraft parts & assemblies per Piper Drawings, Process Specifications (PPS) and other manufacturing instructions. Assists in meeting or exceeding planned production and delivery schedules while maximizing company resources to achieve company goals.
Essential Job Functions: Performs or assists the production and inspection teams with the following requirements:
Ability to perform diverse and difficult mechanical, dimensional, functional and system inspections including aircraft system checks using work orders, engineering work orders, conformity requests and material review requests from support teams
Inspect detail parts, sub-assemblies, major assemblies and systems to ensure they meet the technical data requirements
Test units for functionality and conformance
Able to interpret and work with technical documentation such as Piper specifications, national specifications, drawings, VB-80 (Standard Repair Manual), FAA regulations, Piper’s quality manual, quality procedures, aircraft production orders (APO), vendor technical data and also work with 3D computer modeled parts
Review production travelers, serial number records, correction sheets, engineering orders and compliance sheets for legibility, completeness and accuracy on previous operations.
Verify that all time sensitive aircraft components are current.
Ensure that only current and approved drawings, specifications, QAM instructions, and travelers are used during production and testing of components.
Perform a variety of difficult visual and physical inspections and test to components and systems.
Verify compliance with tests procedures, type design data, flight safety requirements, and cosmetic acceptability.
Use geometry, math and formulas to calculate dimensions, angles and to help resolve issues
May be required to perform conformity and First Article Inspections (FAI) inspections.
Note and report deviations from specifications and initiate required documentation to effect corrective action or disposal of rejected materials.
Interface with Production, Engineering, and other departments as necessary to achieve corrective actions and determine cause.
Maintain accurate records of inspections and procedures accomplished.
Monitor assigned work area for adherence to procedures and processes, proper use of tools and fixtures, calibration date of tools in use, shelf life of rubber goods and adhesives, and proper storage of materials and components.
Maintain all necessary records, files, and reports.
Scrutinize every facet of job and report improper operation, faulty equipment, defective materials, and unusual conditions to supervisor.
Requires the ability to use hand measuring tools, gages, close tolerance measuring equipment and systems
Ensure the department maintains compliance with Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned program requirements.
Audit all departmental programs for effectiveness
Perform duties as assigned by supervision.
Structures Inspector II

Essential Job Functions: Performs or assists the production and inspection teams with the following requirements:
Work as assigned to ensure department targets are met for OFD, Quality and Safety
Partner with area leadership to assist in training and awareness exercises
Perform complex inspections on parts and assemblies using advanced measuring systems such as FARO arm and laser tracking
Perform tool verifications, recycles and recertification
Understand and able to interpret FAA regulatory requirements
Work with support groups to recommend change based on data collected and salvageability of parts and assemblies where applicable
Able to generate complex and detailed reports to support continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives
Generate trend tracking data where applicable to drive problem solving and waste reduction initiatives
Participate in efforts to resolve quality concerns in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Assist with performing Material Review Board activities and standard repairs.
Support continuous improvement efforts to improve the team’s performance including schedule delivery, reduction of late work, elimination of quality defects & scrap, increasing productivity and generating cost reductions.
Support FAA and internal audit activities
Train and assist other team members
Assist with all Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned program requirements.
Perform duties of lower graded position in Career Path and other duties as assigned by supervision

High school diploma or equivalent
Related Mechanic Experience Requirements:
o Structural Inspector I: ≤ 2 years of experience within a manufacturing environment; prior aircraft assembly or machining experience desired. ≤ 1 year of experience as an Inspector or a combination of both
o Structural Inspector II: 3 – 5 years of Inspection experience - prior experience within manufacturing will be considered in lieu of not meeting the year requirements
o Senior Inspector: ≥ 5 years of Mechanic experience
- Ability to work scheduled shift and hours, including overtime
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Proficiency in applying basic and sometimes complex mathematical formula
- Ability to use a wide and diverse scope of measuring equipment is required
- Ability to demonstrate sound judgement and effective communication skills (written and verbal).
