Tack weld stainless steel components using manual GTAW equipment and weld stainless steel components using automated GTAW equipment in accordance with drawings, WPSs, and fabrication package instructions.  Ensure work is accomplished with high quality, in a timely fashion and is compliant with all company, city, state and federal regulations. The applicant will have opportunities to advance their work scope to manual and semi-automatic GTAW of 4130 steel, titanium, and/or aluminum aerospace components.  

What You Will Do:

  • Prepare Base Materials for Welding: Position parts in jigs or fixtures, select appropriate welding tools and materials, connect and activate gas flow, chemically and mechanically clean base materials, and set parameters for desired welds based on technical drawings and welding procedures.
  • Perform Welding Operations: Utilize GTAW equipment to manually tack weld components and automatically weld stainless steel components. Welder will be comfortable selecting appropriate weld programs, aligning the tungsten with the weld, and identifying weld quality and weld equipment errors in process.  
  • Inspect and Repair Welds: Examine welds for quality and rework welds based on engineering instructions.
  • Follow Safety and Compliance Standards: Adhere to company rules and regulations including Environmental Health and Safety, Ethics, and International Trade Compliance; maintain a clean work area.
  • Support and Train: Plan and perform diverse welding operations, interpret technical documents, and use computer-controlled welding equipment as needed.

What You Will Learn:

  • How to position parts in fixtures, select the right welding tools and materials, and set up welding equipment based on technical documents.
  • Proper torch handling, application of filler rods, and execution of various weld types on different materials, including specialized welding tasks.
  • Methods for inspecting weld quality and how to properly interpret weld inspection results to perform appropriate repairs of weld defects.
  • The importance of following safety regulations and company policies to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.
  • How to assist in training other welders, plan and execute complex welding tasks, and use advanced welding equipment and techniques based on technical documentation.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • High school Diploma or equivalent is required. In the absence of a HS diploma or GED, 2 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Previous GTAW and machine operation experience.
  • Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or granted refugee or asylee status) as defined here:  https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-22/chapter-I/subchapter-M/part-120/subpart-C/section-120.62

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Thin wall welding experience preferred.
  • Experience with stainless steel, 4130 steel, titanium, and aluminum welding.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing setting.
