To be successful in this role, all essential job functions must be performed onsite in an active hangar or office environment 4-5 days a week. Building and maintaining strong and collaborative relationships with employees along with operational management and other support teams is also required to successfully meet the performance expectations of a Technical Training Instructor.
Essential Job Functions
- Provide classroom facilitation for all new hires by instructing technical onboarding and key learning topics to prepare technicians readiness for working at West Star Aviation. Instruction will most frequently include repair station initial/refresher training, forms overview, quality processes and the use of manuals along with human factors, FAA regulatory learning and systems (corridor, brainier, etc.).
- Provide classroom instruction or customized hands-on training to existing employees to meet regulatory needs, basic skills/routine task mastery, and refresher/remedial training.
- Ensure all requirements of the site’s Repair Station Manual and Technical Training Manual are incorporated into technical onboarding, refresher/initial courses, and content while maintaining awareness of other aspects of learning and development content not regulated but aligned with the company’s purpose and supports our culture of building technician’s skills, knowledge, and abilities to successfully perform in their respective roles.
- Maintain a can-do attitude and readiness to support ad hoc training requests for new courses or changing content to support ‘in the moment’ training outcomes such as remedial training, changing operational processes and know-how, updated manuals, unique customer requests and/or or new AD’s.
- Routinely review and verify the accuracy of all training materials to identify changes in revision dates, general maintenance manuals or other areas which impact regulatory or customer compliance. Edit materials in a timely manner to maintain integrity, regulatory compliance, and operational alignment.
- Own the development of preparing new or editing existing training materials by collaborating with Quality Assurance, Human Resources, Safety, and program specific stakeholders to ensure content-rich and accurate material is used and encompasses various learning methods (classroom, computer based/virtual, and on the job).
- Complete train the trainer sessions with key stakeholders or third-party vendors as necessary to strengthen your own knowledge and abilities in all areas of routine training instruction.
- Partner with stakeholders and subject matter experts on a semi-annual basis to review training along with the effectiveness of new technicians to ensure work-ready status is achieved. Incorporate feedback to strengthen onboarding and maintain operational alignment.
- Serve as the learning and development lead responsible for overseeing the Aviation Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship program. Provide routine mentorship, conduct monthly check-ins with apprentices and their manager to review progress and recommend / implement improvements to maintain effectiveness of the program and compliance with changing FAA or FISDO requirements. Organize, review, and submit application packages to the FAA and coordinate virtual meetings between the FISDO and applicants for final review and sign-off. Coordinate with L&D Organizers to schedule testing requirements.
- Understand and promote the AMT skill development progression path to new and existing technicians. Monitor LMS modules for AMTs nearing completion and proactively schedule proficiency testing.
- Routinely work with L&D Organizers to communicate and schedule training opportunities, share training records/files, communicate edits, testing or updates needed in the LMS. Discuss classroom or material support needs, upcoming audit support needs to ensure Technical Training Instructors and L&D Organizers work collaboratively and remain aligned on team and individual deliverables.
- Ability to work collaboratively and cohesively with a geographically separated team to align on goals and standardization of enterprise-wide training and regulatory initiatives.
