SMS manager experience in a Gulfstream business unit

Gulfstream SMS investigation trained

Experience with managing an investigation in Q-Pulse software.


Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's Degree related field required or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. 8 years Aviation investigation experience with at least 4 years of SMS program management experience. Internal Audit experience preferred..

Position Purpose:

Leads the Corporate SMS investigation program supporting aviation safety risk management and safety assurance. Ensures Gulfstream SMS investigations follow applicable corporate policies and the SMS Event Management Process. Provides investigation quality control to ensure accurate development of root cause and corrective action. Ensures close interface with Corporate SMS Data Management staff.

Job Description

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:

  1. Leads Corporate SMS investigation program .
  2. Ensures compliance with corporate policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations .
  3. Ensures all SMS investigations meet the Gulfstream SMS standard for investigation accuracy .
  4. Conducts risk assessments on identified contributing factors .
  5. Provides management oversight and administration of Corporate SMS investigators .
  6. Participates in the periodic assessment of site/business unit SMS programs .
  7. Serves as the principal investigator for all CP 12-7 Severity A investigations and resulting reports .
  8. Conducts quality reviews of investigative reports .
  9. Conducts and coordinates complex investigations involving product damage .
  10. Recommends appropriate actions and processes to prevent reoccurrence .
  11. Coordinates investigations and corrective actions with other Gulfstream organizations/leaders .
  12. Provides corporate SMS investigation program status to organizational leaders .
  13. Administers employee reporting mechanisms .
  14. Coordinates the development and delivery of relevant training programs related to SMS investigation .
  15. Develops innovative employee communication, training, and program promotion initiatives .
  16. Leads others by example in upholding corporate values and principles of a positive safety culture .

Additional Functions:

  1. Exercise direct supervision of subordinate personnel; ensure established procedures are followed in carrying out assigned duties. Make decisions to hire, terminate, or discipline department employees; conduct performance appraisals and make other personnel decisions as required. .
  2. Conducts audits to ensure compliance .
  3. Serves as the focal point for audits of the Corporate SMS investigation program .
  4. Conducts various employee input/communication activities (round-table discussions, surveys, focus groups, etc) .
  5. Monitors metrics to assess program performance, provides reports related to investigations and program results .
  6. Analyzes data to determine trends and patterns requiring attention, conducts research of emerging trends within the profession .

Perform other duties as assigned.
