Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a Vehicle Management System (VMS) IPT Director 1.   This leadership role is located in San Diego, CA and will report to the Vehicle Engineering National Director.  10-25 travel is expected.

Job summary: The VMS IPT Director will be responsible for managing a team of approximately 100 engineers along with the contract work scope across Advanced Concepts, Development, Production, Sustainment and International Capture pursuits across the VMS Triton Enterprise.  In this role, under advisement of the Program Director and Chief Engineer, you will provide technical and managerial direction to the engineering and manufacturing staff to address cost, schedule, technical performance, and quality of all VMS work packages. 

Position is responsible for Vehicle Management software, flight computers, guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) software and hardware, and mission planning. This IPT lead will be responsible for implementing new navigation capabilities, GNC resiliency, and continuing to ensure producibility and design of VMS line replaceable units. The IPT is also responsible for addressing Discontinued Manufacturing and Sourcing (DMS) for associated hardware and software.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 12 years of related experience, OR Masters degree in a STEM discipline and 10 years of related experience

  • At least 5 years experience in the design, integration, and test of vehicle management systems and subsystems

  • Experience as a Control Account Manager (CAM) using Earned Value Management Techniques (EVMS)

  • Experience leading the performance of tasks on schedule, at cost and achieving all requirements as either project lead, integrated program team, or cost account manager

  • Experience providing technical leadership of an engineering team

  • Must have an active DoD Secret or higher clearance

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD TS/SCI clearance

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in an engineering or management discipline

  • Active DOD Top Secret Clearance/SCI

  • 5 years of management experience leading a team of engineers

  • Prior experience with Northrop Grumman high altitude long endurance platforms

  • Prior experience in Program Management or Engineering leadership experience on a large United States government program

  • Prior experience with GNC, flight control actuation, and vehicle computing design, integration, test, producibility, and service difficulty resolution

  • Unmanned air vehicle experience

  • Experience leading the planning, scheduling, and execution of enterprise-level Operations, Sustainment, or Information Systems Services activities

  • Familiar with technical data development and sustainment processes

  • Experience building relationships with strategic customers

  • Experience developing sourcing strategies; to include soliciting/analyzing requests for proposals, negotiating contracts and coordinating supplier integration plans

Salary Range: $209,600 - $314,400
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current spanet conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
