Responsibilities
Position Summary
This role is a valued member and strategic business partner of the Legal, Labor, and Employment Department. This role will help lead Labor and Legal employment processes, collective bargaining agreement amendments and updates, and labor negotiations with the Chief Legal Counsel. This strategic role will help PSA’s legal and labor department build continuity and credibility with our key operational stakeholders in the applicable collectively bargained workgroup. This is an opportunity to build a more robust Labor and Legal department at PSA.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide prompt, effective, and informed support on labor-related issues to leadership within multiple corporate departments, including direct interaction with senior leaders.
- Negotiate, implement, interpret, and administer Collective Bargaining Agreements, including decision-making and using judgment and discretion for determining when issues should be addressed and when they need to be escalated for resolution.
- Manage disputes and work collaboratively with union leaders and representatives to arrive at appropriate resolutions.
- Manages the grievance processes with operational departments, responsible for approving third step responses and offering grievance resolution options based on individual circumstances and including participation in System Board arbitrations.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with Union counterparts, including in key leadership roles.
- Research and resolve significant issues arising from contract interpretation and operational areas requiring coordination with other departments and workgroups, including understanding the impact at the institutional level.
- Decision-making and input on overall labor strategy.
- Evaluate and track labor processes and assess for continuous improvement opportunities.
- Reviews contract language assists with labor relations and makes recommendations for changes.
- Responsible for the Companys Security and Safety Management System (SMS) and associated Safety Risk Management and Safety Assurance outputs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Position Specifics
QualificationsRequired
- Bachelors degree in field applicable to Labor Relations, or related training/experience
- 5 years of work experience in Labor Relations or operational support roles related to unionized employees
- Extensive experience in Labor Relations, Collective Bargaining Agreements, Arbitrations, and Negotiations with Labor Unions
- In depth knowledge of laws and regulations related to employment
- Previous experience with a carrier or unionized groups governed under the Railway Labor Act
- Ability to draft, interpret, and negotiate contract language
- Strong understanding of operations and labor
- Ability to work autonomously and demonstrate consistent strong judgment
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software
- Ability to speak/read/write in English
- If hired, must be able to demonstrate that you are authorized to work in the US
Preferred
- Aviation industry experience a plus
Additional Information
Supervisory Responsibility: This is a supervisory position.
Delegation: In absence, responsibilities delegated to the Chief Legal Counsel.
Authorities: None.
Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, facsimile machines and filing cabinets.
