Summary: 

The Director of Quality shall be responsible to the Vice President of Quality for the overall administration of the companys Quality Management System and Inspection processes. The Director of Quality shall plan, direct, organize and control the activities of the department to provide an effective compliance to the requirements of the regulatory authorities, VT SAA customers and internal policies and procedures. The Quality Control, NDT, Technical Records/Library, Training and Safety Departments report to this position.

The Director of Quality shall have unrestricted access to the Snr. Vice-President /General Manager (Accountable Manager), as needed, to resolve quality management issues.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Plan, Organize, Lead and Control the activities of the Quality Department in accordance with the Repair Station & Quality Control Manual to provide effective implementation of the Quality Management System (QMS) and the Safety Management System (SMS).
  2. Coordinate with the Federal Aviation Administrations representatives relating to the activities on which the approval of the Administration must be obtained, including changes of Operations Specifications and/or manual changes as they apply.
  3. Acts as a liaison with the different regulatory authorities (in coordination with the Manager Quality Control/Chief Inspector, the Manager Quality Assurance and the Manager, Regulatory Compliance) with regards to certification, audits, correspondence, meetings and other matters.
  4. Assure the airworthiness of all customer aircraft undergoing maintenance, preventive maintenance and alteration in accordance with the provisions of the appropriate Federal Aviation Regulations and take responsibility for the effectiveness of the company’s training program.
  5. Acts as the Subject Matter Expert on Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR’s) so that the appropriate regulatory guidance can be provided to the management team
  6. Initiates, reviews and coordinates VT SAA’s different Airworthiness Agreements and applicable CAMP deviation letters with all the customer programs,
  7. Establish, monitor, and improve maintenance and inspection procedures that ensure company and customer aircraft will be maintained in a safe, efficient, and economical manner.
  8. Maintains the company’s manuals such as the Repair Station Manual, Policy and Procedure Manual, Departmental Work Instruction Manuals, etc.
  9. Maintain a current list of contract Maintenance Agencies and ascertain that they are properly equipped and qualified for the work they perform for the company.
  10. Assure certification of all parts and materials used in the repair, modification, or overhaul of all aircraft, components, and constituent parts.
  11. Ensure that the calibration of precision tools is recorded and maintained.
  12. Provides management reports related to quality activities, measurement and performance.
  13. Effectively use quality principles and coordinates with the different departments in VT SAA to develop and implement programs that will enhance the compliance level and industry’s best practices. 
  14. Process applications for any required Repairman Certificates
  15. Use Continuous Improvement methodologies to recommend improvement to company processes to enhance Quality and Safety within the company

Mission Critical Goals – First 6 Months:

  1. Build relationship with the regulatory authorities, customer representatives and the management team to understand their expectations and provide effective implementation to the QMS and SMS of VT SAA.
  2. Quickly familiarize with the different operations in the company and how it relates to the QMS and SMS.
  3. Evaluate the effectiveness of the company’s QMS, identify any gaps and recommend the necessary measures as needed
  4. Evaluate and build effective teams to handle the duties and responsibilities of the different departments under his/her charge.
  5. Provide an update to the SVP/GM and VP-Quality within 3 months of hire

Job Qualifications:

Experience:

  • At least 5 years in quality management experience, preferably as a QC Manager or Chief Inspector
  • At least 5 years of Heavy Maintenance QC inspection experience
  • Experience in dealing with the different regulatory authorities and customers

Education:

  • Degree Holder, or equivalent in training, education and/or experience
  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant Certification for past 5 years

Additional Qualifications:

  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as, interact with all levels of employees; management personnel; and customer representatives.
  • Excellent technical writing skills
  • Must possess a high degree of confidentiality, the ability to work under pressure, the ability to handle multiple tasks and be a self-starter.
  • Must be able to execute quality and safety programs
