As Director of Safety, dnata Ground Handling/Cargo & Cabin Services Australia, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing dnata health and safety policies and procedures within the business. The role holder will create and set the strategic plan that aligns to dnata’s vision, annual KPI’s and corporate strategic goals and supports the dnata airport ground and cargo services business in meeting its safety and risk legislative and regulatory responsibilities.  You will create and maintain safety culture strategy with supporting initiatives that align with dnata corporate requirements. 




In this role you will:



  • Develop and drive delivery of effective safety strategies and plans which enable the successful delivery of safety goals.

  • Collaborate with senior management to develop, prepare, and implement safety policies and procedures. Provide technical and administrative support to safety committees as appropriate. 

  • Monitor and report delivery against strategies and plans, ensuring clear assignment of ownership, roles and responsibilities, achievement of the desired impact / business outcome. 
    Identify opportunities to minimise workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.

  • Ensure all operational activities are carried out in accordance with the corporate governance and local & international laws, regulations & standards. Ensure appropriate documentation and reporting is completed. Ensure safety inspections and audits are carried out to assess compliance and implement timely recovery actions where appropriate. 

  • Anticipate and respond to business challenges, ensuring the implementation of safety initiatives and solutions which drive continual improvements to processes and health and safety objectives.

  • Build relationships, network, share best practice and identify opportunities for synergies across the various dnata entities in country / region, ensuring alignment on key initiatives where possible.

  • Drive the dnata Vision, Mission and Values (VMV) in the business and model the behaviours and intent of the VMV’s in all people leadership practices. 

  • Set clear and measurable KPIs and objectives in line dnata framework and process. Drive performance accountability and enable the team to achieve through appropriate support and resourcing.  

  • Lead with safety as a priority, ensuring all decisions are made with safety in mind. Role model safety behaviours and hold direct reports accountable for fulfilling their roles in line with dnata’s safety rules and best practice.

  • Ensure team members are adequately trained and have opportunity for ongoing development.




Job Requirements:


To be considered for this role, you must meet the below requirements:



  • Bachelor (or more advanced) qualification in Health Safety Environment (HSE) related discipline and a minimum of 10 years relevant work experience in a similar role (HSE discipline) preferably in aviation operations.

  • Minimum 10 years experience in Workers Compensation or Injury Management.

  • Knowledge of State and Federal HSE legislation, processes, and industry best practice.

  • Excellent knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards and legislation.

  • Excellent knowledge of potentially hazardous material or practices in the workplace.

  • Experience in implementing safety management systems in complex organisations.

  • Strong regional / country experience, including application of safety legislation, processes, and industry best practice across relevant jurisdictions.

  • Data oriented, including to provide insights and recommendations to drive decision making.

  • Leadership capabilities with the financial competency to devise, execute and manage budgets.

  • Professional accreditation preferred.
