Primary Purpose of the Job
The Director of Global Scrap Procurement is a strategic leadership role responsible for transforming the company’s recycling and scrap procurement initiatives into a key competitive advantage. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Procurement, this position will lead the development and execution of a comprehensive global recycling strategy that maximizes the use of scrap metal to drive profitability and sustainability across all business units.

This role will be instrumental in establishing a centralized approach to scrap procurement and management, ensuring that the company meets its goals for cost reduction, operational efficiency, and environmental stewardship.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning & Management:
- Develop and implement a global scrap procurement strategy aligned with the company’s broader sustainability and profitability objectives.
- Lead the transformation of the company’s recycling and scrap procurement functions from primarily decentralized operations into a cohesive, globally integrated system.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including production, commercial, and finance, to ensure alignment with overall business growth and objectives.
- Operational Excellence
- Oversee the end-to-end metal supply chain, including procurement, inventory management, logistics, and distribution.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for global scrap procurement, ensuring continuous improvement in cost management, supply reliability, and sustainability.
- Drive initiatives to enhance the efficiency of scrap processing and recycling operations, reducing waste and maximizing material recovery.
- Supplier & Market Management:
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with global scrap suppliers, negotiating favorable terms and ensuring consistent quality and supply.
- Monitor global spanet trends and developments in scrap metal spanets to optimize procurement strategies and maintain competitive advantage.
- Collaborate with the legal and compliance teams to ensure that all procurement activities adhere to global standards and regulations, including environmental and trade compliance.
- Innovation & Sustainability
- Champion the use of recycled materials in production processes, working closely with R&D and manufacturing teams to develop new applications for scrap metal.
- Lead efforts to innovate in scrap procurement and recycling processes, integrating new technologies and practices that enhance sustainability and reduce the company’s environmental footprint.
- Drive cross-functional initiatives aimed at increasing the percentage of recycled content in the company’s products.
- Budget & Risk Management:
- Develop and manage the global scrap procurement budget, ensuring alignment with financial targets and cost-saving objectives.
- Identify and mitigate risks related to scrap supply chain disruptions, spanet fluctuations, and regulatory changes, ensuring continuity of supply and financial stability.
- Team Leadership and Development:
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing global team of scrap procurement professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Provide training and development opportunities to ensure the team remains at the forefront of industry best practices in scrap procurement and sustainability.
- Ensure effective communication and collaboration across all levels of the organization, promoting the strategic importance of scrap procurement to the company’s success.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in procurement, supply chain management, or operations within the metals industry, with a strong focus on scrap or recycling.
- Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
- This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. 730, et seq.) and/or the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Authorizations from the relevant government agency may be required to meet export control compliance requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- MBA or Master’s Degree in Supply Chain
- Proven track record of leading global teams and initiatives that have delivered significant cost savings and operational efficiencies.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence and drive change across a global organization.
- Excellent negotiation skills and experience in managing supplier relationships on a global scale.
- Deep understanding of global metal spanets, recycling technologies, and sustainability practices.
