Responsibilities

The Director of Maintenance Control at Spirit Airlines is responsible for overseeing and managing the daily maintenance operations of the airline’s fleet, ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely execution of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance. This role leads the Maintenance Operations Control (MOC) team, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, minimizing aircraft downtime, and optimizing fleet reliability.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage the activities of Maintenance Operations Control (MOC) to ensure the efficient execution of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.
  • Direct the maintenance and servicing of Spirit Airlines aircraft, ensuring compliance with operational and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead, manage, and develop a high-performing team of maintenance personnel, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the deferred maintenance and Minimum Equipment List (MEL) program, including Configuration Deviation List (CDL), Non-Essential Equipment and Furnishings (NEF), and General Maintenance Manual (GMM) items.
  • Ensure daily oversight and assignment of Deferred Maintenance Items (DMI), in coordination with the Senior Manager, Maintenance Control.
  • Maintain responsibility for the technical accuracy and compliance of the MEL, CDL, and NEF to support safe and reliable operations.
  • Collaborate with Technical Operations, the Operations Control Center, and other key departments to strengthen interdepartmental relationships and optimize fleet management.
  • Assume overall responsibility for Out-of-Service (OOS) aircraft and coordinate Return-to-Service (RTS) plans to minimize operational disruptions.
  • Assist in the review and revision of company manuals to ensure alignment with regulatory and operational standards.
  • Ensure that all maintenance operations comply with the conditions and restrictions of the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) and adhere to all applicable FAA regulations and industry standards.
  • Maintain close collaboration with the Director of Quality and other Technical Operations departments to support efficient and effective aircraft maintenance practices.
  • Oversee the recruitment, training, and development of a highly skilled and engaged maintenance workforce.
  • Uphold and promote Spirit Airlines’ Safety Management System (SMS) program, Safety Policies, Security Policies, and Behavioral Standards.
  • May fulfill the roles and responsibilities of the Spirit Airlines 119 Director of Maintenance Control, as per 14 CFR Part 119.65(a).
  • Ability to communicate at any level throughout the organization including 119 briefings.
  • May perform other responsibilities as assigned. Responsibilities and duties may change when circumstances dictate (e.g., emergencies change in workload, rush jobs or technical developments).

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) (Required)
  • Associates Degree or higher in an Aviation or Business Discipline preferred
  • 10 years industry experience
  • 5 years Management experience
  • Proficient understanding of FAA Regulations, specifically Parts 91 and 121
  • Airbus 320 Family experience preferred
  • Valid FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic Certificate (Required)
  • Manpower Planning (Excel/ Power Point proficiency)
  • Critical Problem Solving
  • Excellent Communication Skills (Front Line to C Suite)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, and exceptional time management skills.
  • Proven experience in the development and management of budgets.
  • Strong accountability and a results-oriented approach to work.
  • Proven experience leading a large and multi-departmental Technical Operations Group.
