Our Flight Planning department is on the lookout for a talented and experienced Flight Planner to join us as a Duty Manager - Flight Planning.

The Duty Manager - Flight Planning is a leadership position responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Flight Planning department within the Virgin Atlantic OCC. This role incorporates and combines the essential duties of Specialist - Flight Planning with additional responsibilities in People Leadership and Development.
Overall line management for our team of Specialists – Flight Planning, including ‘On-Shift’ management, offering expert guidance and support.

Be the subject-matter expert for all Flight Planning related queries while on duty in the OCC.

Creating safe, compliant, cost-efficient Operational Flight Plans (OFP) and Briefing materials for all Virgin Atlantic flights world-wide, that are released in compliance with both Company Operations Manuals and UK Air Ops.

Conducting aircraft take-off and landing performance calculations. Understand and apply performance-limiting MEL defects.

Providing in-flight support for company aircraft to enable the safe and efficient continuation of the flight.

Maintaining compliance with regulations and resolving Flight Planning operational related issues.

Accurate event logging enabling effective operational reviews and trend tracking.
Are you a experienced individual with a background in an Airline or Flight Planning environment? Do you have at least 12 months exposure to this environment*, coupled with exposure and a solid understanding of North Atlantic/ETOPS planning procedures? If this sounds like you and you have the skills and capabilities outlined below, then we would love to hear from you to potentially join our team!
  • Proven operational experience in a Flight Planning environment for a minimum of 1 year*, which we anticipate you needing to have attained a comprehensive understanding of North Atlantic/ETOPS planning procedures.
  • Understanding of aviation regulations and compliance requirements related to flight planning.
  • Experience in other operational areas of the aviation industry (flight ops, engineering, aircraft weight and balance, airport ops, regulatory bodies and commercial).
  • Experience of working in a 24/7 shift environment including OCC or similar.
  • Preferably experience at a Supervisory or Duty Manager level (or higher), with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances and make informed decisions under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact effectively with your direct reports and team members, but also collaborate across other areas of the business.
