Arconic is currently in search of an Environmental Compliance & Sustainability Manager to join our Corporate Sustainability Team. Our preference is for this position to sit at our Corporate Center in Pittsburgh, PA. This position requires up to 25 travel.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide environmental regulatory compliance guidance and interpretations to manufacturing locations and collaboratively address potential issues.
  • Support Business Units to drive compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations as well as with internal Arconic policies/standards/programs (i.e., air, water, waste, chemical, EPCRA, TSCA, DOT, etc.).
  • Maintain processes to identify regulatory and external standard changes and support the development of required action plans and systems, best practices, and tools to address, limit, and mitigate environmental compliance issues at all sites.
  • Support management of Arconic’s environmental incident management system and drive sustainable action plans for proper and timely closure of incidents.
  • Support processes to centralize environmental data and ensure robust data quality, including GHG emissions (Scopes 1, 2, and 3), energy, water, and waste.
  • Collaborate on corporate and site-level sustainability disclosures (e.g., CDP, SASB, TCFD, rating agencies, Corporate Sustainability Report, etc.).
  • Facilitate standards implementation and certification procedures for the Aluminum Stewardship Initiative (“ASI”) standards for designated locations.
  • Provide support for Corporate EHS audits and environmental site assessments, participating on-site as needed.
  • Review, interpret, and provide guidance for new or changing U.S. environmental regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as technical contact for Arconic environmental standards.
  • Provide ISO 14001 and 50001 support, as needed.
  • Actively participate in government workgroups, industrial groups, trade association committees, and external standard organizations, as assigned.

Key Objectives

  • Provide technical support that enables locations to achieve tactical and strategic environmental compliance and sustainability goals.
  • Manage environmental data collection, data system integration/management, and key metrics - in collaboration with the Sustainability Data & Reporting Manager.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering or related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • 7 years minimum experience in an environmental compliance and/or environmental sustainability role, preferably with a manufacturer or industrial operator.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. 730, et seq.) and/or the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Qualified candidate must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the relevant government agency. Business demands may require employer to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 - 10 years manufacturing or metals industry experience (preferably the aluminum industry) in an environmental compliance, sustainability, or similar role.
  • Previous multi-location environmental compliance or sustainability responsibilities.
  • Working knowledge of waste, recycling, water use, energy consumption regulations and processes, and external reporting and disclosure requirements.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and legislative policy affecting environmental and sustainability issues.
  • Strong influencing and collaboration skills and ability to engage with high-performance teams and stakeholders at any level within the business.
  • Superior writing ability, capable of presenting information and viewpoints in a clear and compelling manner.
  • Excellent attention-to-detail and ability to analyze data, leveraging information to provide clear, concise, and supported recommendations for action.
  • Proven problem-solving and incident investigation skills.
  • Prior experience with preparation of environmental deliverables (e.g., EPCRA, RCRA, DMRs, etc.).
  • Broad familiarity with all environmental media (i.e., air, water/wastewater, waste, chemical release, etc.).
  • Experience with external analytical tools, information systems (e.g., investor, environmental, spaneting, etc.), and disclosure frameworks (e.g., CDP, CBAM, SASB, GRI, TCFD, etc.).
  • Excellent computer skills are required including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, with the ability to manage, interpret, and report on highly fragmented, often voluminous data.
  • Must have strong organizational, interpersonal, and oral/written/presentation skills in a variety of settings (i.e., shop floor, peer groups, cross-functional teams, plant leadership teams, etc.).
  • Must also be an independent self-starter, a team player, and be able to work on multiple assignments and complete high-quality work against strict and competing deadlines that are dictated by both internal and external stakeholders.
