Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Human Resources Director 1 in McLean, VA for our Global Battle Management & Readiness Division with over 5,000 employees worldwide and $2B in annual revenue. The HR Director serves as a strategic business partner providing day-to-day support to the division general manager and the division senior leadership team in the accomplishment of business objectives.  

The primary function of the role is to be a strategic partner and consultant to the business in order to ensure we have a human capital strategy in place to attract, engage, develop and retain the talent necessary to meet the strategic goals of the business for today and for the future. The selected candidate will lead a team of HR business partners responsible for development and implementation of HR strategy and will lead human capital programs and core processes including but not limited to talent acquisition, talent assessment and development, performance management, employee relations, labor relations, total rewards, succession planning and talent pipeline development, organization effectiveness and leadership development.

The role requires strategic thought leadership, organizational and project management skills in a high paced environment, ability to influence and interface with stakeholders at all levels, strong business acumen and problem-solving capabilities. Candidate must demonstrate executive level communication skills, ability to collaborate in a complex matrixed environment, ability to leverage data and analytics to drive business outcomes and a results-oriented focus aligned to our business goals, leadership behaviors, and values.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required plus a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in HR, or Master’s degree and 8 years of progressive experience in HR
  • Experience across multiple HR disciplines
  • Experience leading HR teams
  • Experience designing and leading change management efforts
  • Experience designing and implementing human capital strategies aligned to business strategy, with clear business outcomes
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with and influence others at all levels
  • Strong project management and problem solving skills
  • Adaptability and resilience; able to change course when needed and operate in an ambiguous environment
  • This position requires up to 25 travel in support of the business
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Secret clearance with the ability to obtain higher level and special clearances
  • Experience working with a global workforce
  • Experience with Workday human resources information system
Salary Range: $173,300 - $259,900
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current spanet conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
