Located in Northern California, the team at Joby Aviation is driven by our goal of creating an affordable, all-electric air transportation system. Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. Since 2009, our team has worked steadily to make this dream a reality. We’ve designed and tested many generations of prototype aircraft capable of serving in a network of electric air taxis. We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onwards toward certifying the Joby aircraft with the Federal Aviation Administration, scaling our manufacturing, and preparing to launch commercial service in 2025.
Joby Aviation is seeking a highly organized and passionate individual to join our Testing
Team as the Electronics Testing Lead, to guide the testing efforts on airborne electronics
hardware that are part of our Processing and Communications, Flight Sensors, and Avionics
systems (these includes hardware such as the Flight Control Computer, Vehicle Navigation
Computer, Vehicle Sensor Computer, Ethernet Switch Computer, etc).As the Electronics Testing Lead you will support the above-mentioned Integrated Product
Teams (IPTs) in development testing through certification testing by understanding the
testing needs, developing custom test capabilities, mentoring and motivating Test
Engineers, and root cause analysis of failures. The most important traits at Joby are attitude
towards the project (reinvent possible) & respect towards teammates and their efforts, hard
work ethic (integrity), safety (aircraft and safety in Test Engineering), effective
communication and enabling alignment. This scope of testing is primarily centered around assessing (a) hardware performance at box-level, (b) hardware ability to withstand various environmental exposure, and (c) hardware reliability (life).Joby Aviation is made up of extremely talented, hardworking, proactive, and hands-on
individuals, operating in a very fast-paced and rewarding environment. We are looking to
expand this team with individuals looking to make a mark in the transportation industry.
Being onsite at San Carlos and orchestrating tasks, discussions, and digging into technical
problems is necessary for this role. Should be willing to travel to Marina and Santa Cruz
facilities as needed.

- Coordinate closely with various IPT teams that are part of System Electronics and implement a robust testing strategy to support safety-of-flight and certification testing.
- This includes:
- Understanding test requests from various teams, and identifying the right test needed to answer the primary question.
- Develop a plan that provides clarity on what tests are needed for which company milestone and then align with IPTs.
- When necessary, identify and build custom Test Support Equipment by interfacing with Equipment Design team. An example of Test Support Equipment is a Functional Test Stand that will operate the equipment as intended during flight, while it is subjected to environmental stress test.
- Manage a team of Test Engineers and provide technical direction/guidance. Lead the reporting test engineers with context.
- Provide technical guidance to the reporting Test Engineers on test plan, test procedure, instrumentation, test automation, data analysis, and test report generation.
- Ensure team is driven to program short term and long-term goals, ensure team is mission driven.
- While simultaneously keeping in mind the career development for reporting engineers by providing stretch opportunities.

- Experience building and managing a team of engineers.
- Experience with known methods and standards for performance verification, environmental qualification, and reliability testing of electronics.
- Background in Mechanical (I.e., thermal cycling, humidity, vibration, shock, salt fog etc) and Electromagnetics type (conducted & radiated emissions and susceptibility) environmental test.
- Hands on experience with instrumentation needed for electronics testing.
- Strong communication and collaborative skills. Imparting influence with people- and technical-skills will be a key trait for success in this role.
