Role Summary
This role is responsible for Alaska’s Cloud and Platform Engineering operations that support Alaska Air Group. The candidate will be part of a Cloud Center of Excellence consisting of several specialized areas that provide technical guidance and leadership in multiple cloud environments to ensure best practices in cloud architecture, deployments, and operations are followed. This includes executing Alaska’s Cloud strategy implementing architectural designs and best practices, defining cloud standards and implementing governance controls. As a people leader, this role must also be able to promote cross-departmental collaboration and take lead in driving process and systems improvements, with a focus on operational stability and cloud adoption. The candidate is expected to collaborate closely with assigned teams, offer hands-on support whenever needed, and participate in regular scrum ceremonies.
Key Duties
Lead diverse technical teams responsible for ensuring Cloud Well Architected Framework principles are implemented in our Azure and GCP cloud environments including reliability, security, cost optimization, operational excellence, and performance efficiency.
Define and articulate the long-term vision, strategy, and roadmap for the cloud platform teams, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and technological advancements.
Drive cloud innovation by implementing and leveraging AIOps methodologies to enhance operational efficiency, predictive maintenance, and automated issue resolution.
Partner closely with Enterprise Architecture and Security teams in designing architecture and security frameworks.
Identify and bridge gaps between development team requirements and our cloud practices and strategy, providing effective solutions and influencing the development teams to ensure new capabilities are operationalized.
Create cloud governance practices, policies and cost controls. Collaborates with subscription owners to ensure compliance and develop self service capabilities to streamline infrastructure workflows.
Leads and/or influences cross divisional enterprise infrastructure projects related to Cloud and Kubernetes Platforms.
Writes business cases to gain support from senior leaders.
Develops people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, focusing on delegation for stretch assignments, growing and developing the team for capacity and growth, looking at performance across the team, and time management.
Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills
Required
7 years of experience in IT, or related area.
Strong technical background in cloud computing, with hands-on experience in designing, deploying, and managing cloud infrastructure using platforms such as Azure or Google Cloud.
Experience with Cloud Well Architected Framework Best Practices for Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including modernizing highly complex and critical applications to modern cloud architecture.
Design, implement and maintain a Cloud high-availability and disaster recovery strategy for the organization.
Provide technical leadership for designing and operating Cloud and Kubernetes environments and cloud-native services, focusing on scalability, security, cost-effectiveness, and standardization.
Champion developer self-service by building tools that empower teams to deploy and manage infrastructure independently
Experience working in an Agile environment, developing product backlogs, and ensuring successful delivery of projects on time.
Responsible for optimizing cloud spend through FinOps practices while maintaining operational excellence.
Experience implementing Cloud Landing Zone Design, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, ARM), Azure DevOps, and CI/CD.
Adaptive leader, sensitive to team needs, and creating a culture of belonging. Proven ability to build, coach, and mentor teams.
Bachelor’s/master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field. An additional two years of relevant training/ experience in lieu of this degree. Minimum age of 18 and must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred
Certifications such as Azure Solutions Architect Expert and/or Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect.
Prior experience implementing AIOps solutions to enhance cloud operations, including automation, predictive analytics, and proactive issue resolution.

Salary Range
$146,400 - $219,600 / year
Salary Details
Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Hawaiian/Horizon employees. Alaska/Hawaiian/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.
Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
