Core to this position is working in collaboration to establish, foster, and maintain relationships for Air Canada with elected and non-elected officials and their staff on the Federal and Provincial level (Ontario), along with municipalities across the province. Reporting to the Senior Director, Government Relations (Federal and Ontario) the successful candidate will play an important role in advocating for policies that support the company, its goals and contributions to Canada and ensuring that the aviation sector and its complexities are well understood.
Responsibilities:
- Liaise with elected and non-elected Government officials, stakeholders, community leaders and business association partners to promote policies and regulatory changes that will further strengthen the aviation section in Canada while enhancing Air Canada’s visibility and presence in Communities.
- Proactively monitor relevant policy, legislative and regulatory developments at the Federal level which may impact the airline industry and the overall passenger journey.
- Assist with the drafting of briefing notes, background documents, public presentations and speaking note for Senior Management to support Air Canada’s advocacy efforts and strategies.
- Collaborate with the Community Relations and Partnerships team in the evaluation, negotiation, activation, and communications in relation to relevant regional and national community partnerships.
- Identify, evaluate and execute on opportunities for Air Canada to garner increased visibility in public forums and events, including events organized by chambers of commerce, trade and industry organizations and represent Air Canada at these events.
- Serves as Air Canada representative with local/provincial associations, interest groups or third-party organizations
- Respond to specific requests from Parliamentarians, including constituency inquiries.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline required
- Previous experience in Government and/or stakeholder relations (minimum of 5 years) and a keen understanding of government mechanics and the decision-making process is essential
- Knowledge of the airline industry is an asset
- Proficiency in French and English both verbal and written
- Solid communication skills both written and verbal
- Strong analytical, organizational, and planning skills
- Excellent decision-making abilities
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- In-depth political and policy understanding
- Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
