Position Summary
The Project Management Intern supports Parker-Meggitt’s Engineering Department in its execution of engineering project schedules in a timely manner and to supplement the project management role in preventing or correcting misses in schedules, maintaining projects to budget, planning engineering activities to optimize personnel timing, and contributing to the development of products for aerospace applications.
Core Responsibilities
- Under direction of project managers within an Engineering organization, assist in the driving of projects to deliver on time, within scope, and within budget.
- Support project managers in creating and maintaining project documentation:
- Schedules
- Plans
- Risk Registers
- Action Items Lists
- Work Breakdown Structure Milestones
- Assisting the project managers in tracking and providing the status of team members assigned tasks
- On the job learning of project management and Parker-Meggitt Tucson processes
- Employ knowledge and skills learned from school in day-to-day work
- Regular contact with Mechanical Engineers, Laboratory Technicians, Electrical and Systems Engineers, and Quality Assurance team members at Parker-Meggitt Tucson’s facility
- Develop positive and professional working relationships to accomplish tasks
- Accountable to generate accurate documentation at the direction of project managers
- Accountable to maintain a perspective of constant learning
- Accountable to keep track of assignments and prioritize tasks at the discretion of the Engineering Manager
- Accountable to effectively manage work and school balance
- Accountable to participate in department improvement initiatives
- Other responsibilities as assigned
- Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required
Physical Requirements- Approximately 80 sitting and 20 standing/walking about in-door Company facilities.
- Lift and Carry up to 40 lbs.
- Use head and neck in static position, looking up/down and side-to-side.
- Perform light lifting from floor, table and shelf.
- Push and pull carts or mobile tables, loaded and unloaded.
- Minimal: heavy lifting from floor or higher, bending, twisting, climbing, lifting arms above shoulders, kneeling.
- Minimal: exposure to excessive noise, hazardous chemicals, hazardous equipment, uneven walking surfaces
- Typing with computer and keyboard
Job Specifications
Education: Currently studying under a BS in Business Management, Engineering Management, or other Engineering degree at a 4-year university (Studying under a postgraduate degree is also acceptable)
Experience: Currently enrolled in Junior level Engineering classes (300 level) or higher level with a minimum GPA of 3.0: Currently enrolled in Junior level Engineering classes (300 level) or higher level with a minimum GPA of 3.0
Certifications: None required.
Work Schedule: Work between 12 and 30 hours per week depending on school schedule and school commitments.
This is a year-round internship position with the potential to last through graduation. Work hours are flexible and determined based on school schedule. Up to 20 hours per week during the school year with potential for more hours during breaks and in the summer. Candidates must be local to the Tucson/Oro Valley areas.
