The role:

Resource Business Support Manager

The Resource Business Support Manager are part of the Operations Planning Governance and Change Department at British Airways, a critical department responsible for the strategy, development, deployment, and maintenance of our Resource Planning and Delivery Systems across Flight Crew, Cabin Crew, and Airports. This team are experts on the data and processes within the department. Through data manipulation, modelling and supporting the senior management team they play a pivotal role in the seamless operation of the airline.

What you’ll do:

  • Deliver world-class and continuously improving resourcing functions
  • Support development and delivery of a resourcing strategy which is aligned to the Heathrow vision
  • Drive simplification and automation to maximise operational productivity
  • Create and design key reports to support the rest of the department as well as Heathrow with accurate and transparent view of resourcing as well as to aid with effective management of the business
  • Source and network with external companies to benchmark processes within the department
  • Define, develop and lead the delivery of the local change agenda within RP&D
  • Support the annual financial and business plan, pulling together information
  • Supports and deputises for management with project and business support
  • Responsible for the end to end Resourcing Systems including deployment and improvements ensuring fit for purpose and meeting the business needs. This includes management of supplier relationships both internal and external, as well as managing the system interface and the relationship with IT
  • Support the Resource Planning and Delivery senior management team in delivering their strategies whilst improving business and usual activities
  • Create, shape, monitor and deliver a resource support strategy to improve resource planning and delivery functions in a cost competitive environment with the goal removing manual intervention, improving efficiency
  • Develop, deliver and gain approval for annual financial plans related to support functions according to the corporate budgetary timescales
  • Lead all Trade Union and Stakeholder negotiations relating to support functions including system implementation
  • Support colleagues in the terminal when needed
  • The key deliverable for the role is a successful Heathrow operation. As the operation runs 24x7 it will be necessary for the role-holder to at time work hours outside of normal office hours

What you’ll bring to British Airways:

  • Strong communication and project management experience with the ability to promote the need and deliver change
  • Knowledge of Business Objects and databases
  • Good knowledge of the systems used in Resource Planning & Delivery
  • High level of IT literacy with excellent Excel and Data Manipulation capability
  • Able to work as part of a team

Your experience:

  • Strong understanding of the Resource Planning and Delivery end to end processes
  • Excellent people management skills including experience of successful team and performance management
  • Strong planning, numeracy and analytical skills
  • Communication – able to understand and convey problems concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences. You also realise the value of listening to answers and feedback and using this to help direct projects
  • Problem-solving – thrive working in ambiguity, evaluating complex problems, finding effective solutions, presenting results, and making decisions in a clear and informative manner.
  • Critical thinking – disciplined thinking that is logical, open-minded, and informed by evidence comes naturally to you. You are skilled at discovering problems by listening to a variety of stakeholders and asking probing and relevant questions until the real need is surfaced and understood
  • Proven stakeholder engagement experience including presenting complex data up to and including senior management
  • Proactive and able to network well in order to compare and benchmark against other companies
  • Experience of initiating and delivering positive business change
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with line customers up to and including Senior Managers including effective communication and influencing
  • Demonstrated ability to manage ambiguity balancing the often-conflicting demands to protect business performance
  • Pro-active self-starter with a proven record of effective trouble shooting regarding in-depth, complex and detailed HR/administration issues
  • Strong understanding and experience of data exploitation (especially Microsoft Excel)
  • Emotionally resilient and copes well with pressure and changing demands
