Role Summary
The Senior HR Business Partner is a subject matter expert in HR strategy, programs, and services at Alaska Airlines. As an individual contributor, this role exercises considerable judgment to make decisions in the execution of a comprehensive people strategy and provide recommendations to address organizational effectiveness, leadership development, engagement, workforce and succession planning, performance management, and training in support of a high-performance culture. A successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to think about the big picture, while being able to drop down into the details. They will be able to work in extremely ambiguous and complex situations, and they will help coach and mentor the HR Business Partners. This role will work closely with the Employee Relations, Legal, Labor, and Compliance teams to promote equity, company values, and accountability in the workplace.
Key Duties
Acts as a subject matter expert in HR strategy, programs, and services.
With minimal direction from leadership, exercises considerable judgement to address organizational effectiveness, leadership development, engagement, workforce and succession planning, performance management, and training.
Develops a deep understanding of the business and functions as a liaison to help inform the creation and implementation of people initiatives, programs and strategies that effectively address business needs.
Manages projects to support various HR-related and cross functional initiatives, including development and implementation of company-wide people programs, ensuring that change management best practices are applied.
Builds strong relationships with assigned leaders to guides and provide feedback regarding people-focused goals and objectives.
Applies deep knowledge in HR programs, services, and People Policies to communicate HR initiatives and serve as a liaison between assigned business group and HR functional areas. Proactively maintains an open line of communication with managers and employees on HR service-related issues.
Makes recommendations to advance employee engagement. Partners with the leaders in HR and across the company to analyze engagement data, effectively communicate survey results, and improve engagement, customer satisfaction, and leadership effectiveness.
Participates in department reviews and partners with the business leaders on measuring and evaluating employee performance. Serves in an advocacy/consulting role for employees experiencing problems/issues that impact their job performance.
Provides compensation support including salary planning, approval of salary actions, promotions and job re-leveling.
Partners with other HR leaders and Alaska leadership to foster engagement, create a great place to work, and to provide a hassle-free and world-class experience to internal clients, employees, candidates, and other stakeholders.
Functions as a thought partner with the business to increase awareness and understanding of DEI as a critical business imperative and influences change with people focused goals and objectives that is in alignment with the company’s DEI goals for a more equitable future. Coaches and mentors HR Business Partners, helping the team to be successful in growing their knowledge, skills, and career.
Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills
Required
4 years of experience in Human Resources, leadership or related area.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
Demonstrated ability to think conceptually, influence stakeholders, and develop strategies.
High energy, positive presence along with top-notch written and verbal communication skills.
Innovative, apolitical, resilient, fact-based, and a creative solutions-focused mindset, with ability to thrive in a rapidly-changing, collaborative environment and to manage conflict.
Demonstrated ability to seek out and incorporate feedback from all levels of the organization.
Experience designing and managing complex processes, as well as managing projects.
Proven ability to leverage business acumen and analytic capability to position the HR organization as a change agent and key business partner.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other Microsoft products as well as common HR applications.
Ability to travel occasionally as needed.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum age of 18.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred
PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification.
In-depth experience in HR functional areas (generalist, employee relations, recruiting, etc.).
Compensation knowledge or experience.
Experience with change management.
Knowledge of employment law.

Salary Range
$95,000 -- $142,600 / year
Total Target Compensation Range (incl. bonus & equity)
$102,125 - $153,295
Salary Details
Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.
Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
