 Hybrid Role:
This is a hybrid position; you will be required to work at the WestJet Campus in Calgary approximately 3 days / week.
Candidates need to be located within Calgary Metropolitan Region.

WestJet is one of the leading network carriers in North America and the Senior Manager, Strategic Procurement will be joining the organization as it reaches an exciting and unique inflection point due to our renewed strategy focusing on winning markets in the West, flying Canadians to sun destinations and offering affordable travel.

Reporting to the Vice President, Supply Chain and Procurement, the Senior Manager, Strategic Procurement is accountable for leading a team of Category Managers and Category Specialists accountable for developing category and sourcing strategies in collaboration with business stakeholders. As a leader you will support  the team but also conducting more complex sourcing events, manage contract lifecycle and supplier risk  and performance management. As a member of our Strategic Sourcing & Procurement, Supply Chain and CRE team, you will contribute to our multi year strategy and support the growth of our team as we mature to best in class within our industry.

Key deliverables include:

  • Lead the creation of category strategies in partnership with business stakeholders.
  • Develop multi-year sourcing strategies with clear NPV savings supporting the company’s 5-year plan.
  • Ensure compliance to all regulatory requirement and S2P policies and procedures.
  • Ensure full utilization of all applicable S2P technologies and processes.
  • Establish targets, monitor progress and report on strategic procurement metrics.
  • Report on value creation and develop annual plan and targets for accountable areas of spend.
  • Lead, attract and retain a high performing and highly engaged team.
  • As an integral part of WestJet Strategic Supply Chain, Sourcing & Procurement leadership team act as a leader, motivator, and role model.
  • Responsible for overall team mentoring, hiring, performance reviews and development plans.
  • Analyze report findings and data and make recommendations when required.
  • Maintain and provide a current understanding of industry best practices and trends to team members and business partners.
  • Ensure budgets and organizational financial goals are met.
  • Manage and measure category team performance against individual targets and key business objectives.
  • Liaise with internal category teams and internal business partners to gain a comprehensive understanding of business objectives.
  • Identify metrics, tools, and processes to optimize sourcing activities and efficiencies and work collaboratively with team members to prioritize and drive implementation.
  • Lead the development of negotiation strategies and negotiations of high value, high risk, and complex agreements with large technology suppliers.
  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with key technology and consulting service partners.
     

Required Experience

  • Ten plus years of progressive experience in leading large strategic projects, strategic procurement, contracting, supply chain management, legal and/or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 8 to 10 years’ experience in a leadership capacity focusing on building, developing, and motivating high performing teams.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of a source to pay process including category management, negotiations, purchasing, total cost of ownership, supplier risk management, S2P systems, cost driver metrics and reporting.
  • Strategic Procurement experience with Direct and Indirect categories would be an asset.
  • Understanding of complex service agreements, SLAs and supplier performance management.
  • Strong and proven business and financial acumen.
  • Experience with should cost modelling for goods and services.
  • Knowledge of aviation industry an asset.
  • Strong Project Management skills required.
  • Proven high-level degree of financial and problem-solving ability required.
  • Excellent knowledge of Strategic Sourcing, Contract and Vendor Management.
  • Excellent relationship building, interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills required.
  • Ability to influence change and work with ambiguity.
  • Proven track of high performance and ability to execute.
  • Thorough knowledge of advanced functions of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Education

  • University or post-secondary degree is required.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Finance, Commerce, Supply Chain Management, or a related field is desired for this position.
  • A Master’s degree in commerce, business administration or economics, with a comprehensive understanding of supply chain management or post-graduate degree in business, finance, or related field would be an asset.
