Reporting to the Associate Director of Engineering, this position will lead the Assembly and Test Engineering Team which is responsible for the design and development of the assembly processes, tooling, assembly lines and all associated documentation required to manufacture and test a broad range of complex opto-mechanical products. In this role, you will be responsible to lead, develop and coach a highly skilled, multi-disciplined team to execute on programs to meet product performance and manufacturing excellence.

Requirements/Key Competencies
- Tactically coordinate team activities to deliver responsibilities in basis of estimating, product development, assembly line support, improvements and corrective actions.
- Supply necessary resources and support to the operations teams for real-time problem resolution on the production floor, fostering a collaborative environment and facilitating efficient manufacturing operations.
- Ensuring that the right resources are available to meet projected workload and delivery on quality, schedule and cost.
- Coach all team members in their role and performance goals to achieve operational plans and targets.
- Support the identification and execution of team training needs to develop an innovative cross functional team.
- Control, monitor and integrate all aspects of the manufacturing execution system.
- Lead group members in team meetings and apply” Design for Manufacturing” concepts to ensure manufacturing success and meet committed delivery schedules.
- Utilize a Continuous Improvement mindset and strategy to guide the team to develop safe manufacturing processes for common skilled employees to produce the highest quality product at the lowest possible cost.
- Focus the team on efficiency in procedures and creating cost reduction initiatives.
- Providing technical leadership and assisting in the training and development of less experienced team members, helping them diagnose and solve complex problems while building their capabilities.
- Manage communication to cross functional teams (engineering, operations, quality and supply chain) including; requirements definition, escalation, status reporting, personnel, resource, financial and schedule management.
- Identify advanced manufacturing improvement opportunities, as well as support the delivery of new tooling, test equipment and automation using business cases, option analyses and optimization recommendations for management review and buy-off.
- Ability to critically review internal processes and forge pathways to improve efficiency and utilization of your team to maximize the value to the organization.
Education and Technical Requirements:
- Must have an engineering background, preferably in Applied Physics, with experience in the optics manufacturing, defense or aerospace industry preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience supervising a team is mandatory. Preference may be given to candidates who have managed a technical team and/or supervised individuals with cross-functional technical experience. Will consider equivalent experience in similar complex manufacturing industries with demonstrated complexity and leadership.
- You possess a sound understanding of operations optimization principles relating to workflow, process analysis and resource planning.
- This position requires the incumbent to be driven and make defined step changes to achieve a higher level of operational excellence.
- You demonstrate a commitment to leadership development with the capacity to work well with people at all levels of the organization.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
