The Tool Maker is responsible for a broad range of machining equipment and technical expertise to produce precision aerospace components to exacting standards from a wide variety of material.
We are currently looking for an Aviation Machinist (Tool Maker) to join our growing team in Sidney, BC (YYJ). The successful applicant for this role will receive training appropriate to their area.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Machine aircraft parts and/or tooling and other parts from routine and exotic materials utilizing both conventional and CNC equipment
- Program CNC equipment
- Comprehend the specifications of a product by reviewing drawings, samples, and instructions
- Capable of meeting all DOT, De Havilland Aircraft of Canada and customer quality requirements
- Measure and mark materials for turning, shaping or cutting
- Assist in training, directing, and supervising junior employees
- Estimate and plan projects on time and on budget
- Carry out in-process inspections
- Maintain a clean work area, and alerting the supervisor of any safety concerns
- Adhere to health and safety guidelines and principles
- Produce quality aerospace parts in collaboration with the rest of the Machine Shop production cell
- Observe tools and machines to ensure that feeds are adjusted, the temperature is maintained, and issues are identified
- Perform any other related project or task as assigned
Education & Experience
- Must possess an Inter Provincial Machinist Trades Qualification or similar trade equivalency from another recognized national, state, or provincial body
- A minimum of 5 (five) years experience working as a Machinist
- Experience in Aerospace/Aviation is considered an asset
- Laser Tracker experience and Metrology experience is considered an asset
- Toolmaker’s ticket is considered an asset
- Experience in reading/understanding complex drawings, blueprints, and work instructions is considered an asset
Special Conditions:
- Shift work will be required based on shift-bid, seniority and company requirements
- Work to be performed in noisy and often warm production areas, including working with chemicals — all PPE is required at all times
- Occasionally required to lift heavy objects up to 40 lbs
- Successful candidates must be willing and able to work in either Sidney, BC or Calgary, Alberta
