MISSION:

To efficiently and safely operate the Alloy Service Centers 6.5 and 8 ton Vacuum Furnaces and consistently produce alloys that meet PCC&39;s metallurgical specifications for the production of vacuum ingots and use of the ABS system.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Preparation

Objective: check and maintain furnaces to ensure operation and vaccum levels meet all Process control Procedures and assure each of the 25 different alloys produced are in compliance with all heat sheets,costomer specs, SOP’s PCP’s and QCM’s

Essential Job Functions:

A. Check Furnace operation vacuum level, power supplies, pumping system, cooling system computer system and overall operation of the furnace .
B. Uses ABS charge makeup Sheet for preparation of master heats to meet the ASC melt schedule. Ensures all revert and elements are weighted correctly
C. Loads material into charges cans. Verifys all paperwork and material weighed is correct before starting the heat.

Marginal Job Function:

D. Notifies appropriate personnel of low raw materials levels as needed.

2. Melting

Objective: to operate the furnace and complete the melting of a master heat before pouring ingots into molds.

Essential Job Functions:

A. Maintains and monitors vacuum levels throughout melts according to PCP 046-045 and 046-042 .
B. Charges furnace by adding virgin and revert materials as required. Using NEOVIM melt procedure in PCP 046-045 and 046-042
C. Takes sample of molten metal for lab analysis; makes adjustments to the composition using the ABS Alloy Blend System. Works with lab and department Metallurgist. Hand calculates additions as needed
D. Approves start of pouring process when heat composition meets specifications.
E. Operates the furnace to pour alloy ingots ; operates mold filling system during pours, hydraulic systems, doors, cranes and hoists.
F. Uses electronic heat log to document entire heat. Completes all paperwork at the end of the Pour. Enters all elements and revert usage into the ASC data log.
G. Meets master heat production time acroding to department standard.

3. Maintenance

Objective: to maintain the 6.5 and 8 ton ASC master melt furnace systems.

Essential Job Functions:

A. Maintains and monitors condition of melting coils, furnace linings, power leads and power supply, water cooling system and pumps, hydraulic system and pumps, vacuum pumping system and pumps. Maintains all mechanical parts to keep the furnace running efficient.
B. Cleans furnace of soot and alloy after each cycle.
C. Replaces furnace pot as needed

4. Completes accurate logs, production reports and equipment records.

5. Provides work direction, training, and working supervision as assigned.

6. Meets all production and quality standards.

7. Does all furnace and department support work, assembles and sleeves all pouring racks. Builds all furnace tundishes. Bulds and patches all launders. Loads and stages all master heats. Desleeves and stages finished racks for production.

7. Safety

Objective: to take responsibility for and demonstrate safe work practices.

NOTE: for job positions that require respiratory protection (more than a filtering face piece – dust mask):

In compliance with the Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Division Personal Protective Equipment standard for Respiratory Protection, OAR 437, Div. 2/I 1910.134 and Oregon Health Division Rules for the Control of Radiation, OAR 333. Div. 120 (333-120-300 through 330), certain tasks within this job position require/may require the use of a NIOSH-approved respirator. An individual will not be assigned to these tasks if the person is not able to work under these conditions. Respirator selection will be based on the work performed, exposure information, duration of use and any other relevant factors. If a tight-fitting respirator is required, facial hair, temple pieces on glasses or other items that interferes with the face-to-face piece seal of the respirator are not permitted.

A. Adheres to plant and department safety rules.
B. Safely operates all equipment and tools.
C. Traind and qualified in confined space
D. Trained in lock out tag out.
E. Trained in fall protection.

F. Identifies and reports safety problems.

OTHER ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Performs other tasks as directed.
2. Maintains a clean work area using the 6-S system.

TRAINING

1. Training is provided on the job.
2. PCC&39;s Forklift Driving Safety Certification Training must be completed.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Basic knowledge of vacuum master melt operations or vacuum furnace operations OR any equivalent combination of experience and training.
2. Ability to read, interpret, and follow specifications on Technique Cards, Process Control Procedures and Standard Operating Procedures.
3. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) and calculate percentages.
4. Ability to work independently and as a team member, with limited supervision.
5. Ability to provide work direction and coordinate the work of others.
6. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
7. Physical ability to perform essential job functions.
