The variety of a robust scheduled passenger and cargo network throughout the Canadian Arctic combined with a diverse charter program allows our Pilots to see and experience it all.

Canadian North operates a versatile and well-equipped fleet consisting of the 737 Classic and NG series as well as the ATR 42 and 72. Our 737 operations are based out of Calgary, Edmonton and Ottawa. While our ATR operations are based out of Yellowknife and Ottawa. Ottawa-based ATR pilots will generally be deployed to support our operations in Iqaluit with 6–14-day pairings.

Key Responsibilities

Interested candidates should be able to perform the following duties and responsibilities:

  • As the leader of their crew and ultimate command authority on board the aircraft the Captain is responsible to the Chief Pilot (on type) for the safe operation of the aircraft and the safety of all persons on board during flight;
  • The flight will be conducted in accordance with Canadian North Standard Operating Procedures (SOP);
  • Captains shall ensure the safety of passengers, crew and aircraft by adhering to the Canadian North safety policy and utilizing the appropriate safety reporting program in order to identify and communicate all known hazards and risks to the organization and ensure continual improvement through the periodic review of documented processes;
  • The Captain must be properly qualified by the Company and successfully complete a Transport Canada Captain Pilot Proficiency Check (PPC).
Qualifications

Include, but not limited to, the following minimum skills and qualifications:

  • High School Diploma;
  • 2,500 hours total time;
  • 1,000 hours multi-engine Pilot in Command experience;
  • Transport Canada Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL);
  • Valid Transport Canada Group 1 Instrument Rating;
  • Valid Transport Canada Category 1 Medical Certificate;
  • Prior CAR 705 experience preferred;
  • Prior experience on ATR42/72 aircraft (or similar) preferred;
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada;
  • Current valid passport or Canadian Permanent Resident Card if you are not a holder of a Canadian passport;
  • All required visas or travel documents allowing you to freely travel unrestricted;
  • Ability to communicate in Inuktut a definite asset;
  • Ability to obtain and retain an Airport Restricted Area Identity Card in accordance with the Airport Restricted Area Access Clearance Program regulated by Transport Canada.

Pilots that reside more than one hundred and fifty kilometers (150 km) from their Base will be reimbursed up to five hundred dollars ($500.00) per direction to a maximum of two thousand dollars ($2000.00) per month to assist with the cost of travel from their home to their Base or assigned work location.
