The Meteorology Cooperative Learning program is designed to help students prepare for professional careers in the field of Meteorology or a related profession. It will provide practical, real-world experiences that challenge the student both personally and professionally.

Candidates will rotate work and school every other semester. This position is for Spring 2025, Fall 2025 and Summer 2026. We will consider candidates that can only work 1 or 2 rotations, but prefer candidates that can commit to all 3 rotations. The selected candidate will have completed a minimum of 30 hours of undergraduate courses in order to be eligible for the Co-op program.

The student can expect to gain valuable industry experience, work on substantive projects, and develop professional skills through training and mentoring with experienced professionals. The students time will be split with approximately 85 of the time spent on project work and 15 observing and forecasting with meteorologists while they perform operational duties

The student will be responsible for working on a variety of interesting and challenging projects that contribute to the departments continued improvement and success. This includes gathering and analyzing meteorological data for various projects, creating training material and developing various tools/websites to improve our processes and procedures.

The Co-op can also expect to gain hands-on forecasting experience learning with Deltas team of Meteorologists that provide a wide range of weather forecast products.

For out-of-state candidates there is a housing stipend provided to help with offsetting relocation expenses.

This is a full-time, paid position based in Delta’s Operations and Customer Center in Atlanta, Georgia. 
What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)
  • Is at least 18 years of age and has authorization to work in the United States.
  • Possesses a high school diploma, GED, or high school equivalency. 
  • Embraces diverse people, thinking, and styles. 
  • Consistently prioritizes safety and security of self, others, and personal data. 
  • The candidate must possess Deltas core values of honesty, integrity, respect, perseverance, and servant leadership. 
  • The candidate must convey a professional image to all levels of associates. 
  • The candidate must be able to effectively communicate information (verbal and written) and be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Candidates should have a strong command of meteorological observational data, numerical weather prediction, data analytics and basic coding (Python, SQL, HTML, Javascript, or similar). 
  • The candidate must be enrolled in an atmospheric science, meteorology or similar degree and preferrably completed a Dynamic Meteorology course. 
  • The successful candidate will be a motivated, self-starting, critical thinker with a passion for meteorology and aviation currently enrolled in an accredited 2 or 4 year university.
