Position Summary
The Parker Lord HCL Production Shim Operator is responsible for performing a variety of blanking, forming, deburring, and machining operations in the Shim Department within the High-Capacity Laminates (HCL) area of the Erie facility. This position supports Erie plant production to produce metal components that conform to specifications using punch presses, power forming machines, deburring equipment, and lathe machines while following all safety protocols with continuous improvement involvement. Inspecting parts to ensure that they meet drawing requirements with the use of comparators and other precision measuring instruments is required. Candidates must be able to work off shift for an extended period of time, likely multiple years.
Responsibilities
- Set-up and operate a variety of machines and other related equipment to manufacture metal component parts to drawing specification
- Perform visual and mechanical inspections using comparators and other inspection equipment to ensure product conformity
- Utilize working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing when required
- Ability to perform tasks which involve a reasonable level of noise while being provided with proper personal protective equipment
- Perform minor rework as needed to bring parts into drawing tolerances
- Daily interaction with other operators and department support staff to share best practices and support smooth shift changeover
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and quality while remaining on task to enable meeting expected production output which often requires performing repetitive production operations
- Participation in activities designed to improve safety, quality, customer satisfaction and productivity
- Proactive involvement in LEAN manufacturing with a commitment to continuous improvement
- Complete all product paperwork and computer transactions accurately and timely, utilizing material requirement planning (MRP) system SAP
- Ability to attain Parker LORD operator inspection certification with training provided following hire
Qualifications
REQUIRED
- High school diploma
- Fluent in English both written and verbal
PREFERRED
- Blanking, forming, deburring, machining and/or inspection experience in a manufacturing setting
- Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing understanding
- Trade school experience
