The position is located within the Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Office of NextGen (ANG). This is a standardized Student Trainee position, which can be used in any ANG organization.
Duties
The Student Trainee will perform a mixture of routine and somewhat complex tasks under the general direction of a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or other more experienced employee. The student will work in a team setting with professionals from various disciplines; and may assist the manager and other employees in day-to-day operations. Applies basic knowledge and limited experience in performing tasks.
The student will direct and edit video and audiovisual programs of a technical nature through audio video production including photography, audio and television visual aids. Assist the Visual Production Specialist in the selection of visual materials designing the placement and appearance of visual materials; design the placement of text in relation to art; plan effective use of color schemes, textures and shape while taking the technical constraints of a particular method of communication; participate in technical team planning of project and program support for video and visual instrumentation activities; and operate various video and photographic cameras, recorders, editors and associated equipment to capture test activities.
Develop, design, produce and create videos that serve as documentation of the technical work performed within the WJHTC and Federal Tenant Organizations. Also provide audio-visual technical services for live events, conferences and meeting in the Center’s auditorium, atrium and conference rooms. Provide technical and event photography services for various activities within the WJHTC as well as graphic design services for products such as exhibits, posters, brochures and digital signage.
Regularly coordinates with a manager and/or other more experienced employee to plan time, prioritize assignments, and use assigned resources to accomplish tasks. Contacts are primarily internal to one organizational unit, with a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced employee to share basic information and to receive guidance. May have limited contacts with external customers. Established policies/procedures provide detailed guidance for almost all assignments, with little or no room for discretion. Receives detailed instructions from a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced employee.

APPOINTMENT - If selected, your appointment may not exceed a total of 120 days after completing educational requirements. Participation in this program may be terminated at any time.
AGREEMENT: All participants must sign a written Gateways Internship Agreement with their manager that clearly identifies expectations of the appointment such as duties, length of appointment, work schedule, training, mentorship etc.
CONVERSION: Although not guaranteed, an intern may be converted from the Internship Program to a permanent appointment without further competition in accordance with established policy. Conversion must occur within 120 days after successful completion of the educational program (awarding of diploma, certificate, or degree), completion of a minimum of 640 hours of career-related work experience, required training, mentorship, and other requirements in accordance with the intern’s participant agreement. Additionally, the intern must meet qualification requirements and any other position requirements associated with the position to which converted. The intern must be converted to an occupation related to his/her academic training and career-related work experience as outlined in their participant agreement.
