Position Overview:

A QA Lab Technician is responsible to perform product, process, material and services acceptance to ensure conformances of specific processes or materials used within customer specifications, regulatory requirements and environment standards.

What You Will Do:
  • Provide quality-related and/or chemical-related technical support to production and/or the overall facility and produce and maintain detailed and accurate QA Lab records, reports and documentation.
  • Provide chemical and technical analysis before, during and after production to measure the characteristics of chemicals and/or materials in order and coordinate feedback with production for adjusts and retest recorded results as required.
  • Perform various tests (i.e. salt spray, surface tension tests, end grain pitting, intergranular corrosion, destructive testing of bonded panels, glass transition temperature, cured polymer glass transition temperature, etc.) to verify first article production, effects of introducing new manufacturing methods and/or tooling modifications and on a regular basis. Prepare mechanical test samples and perform all mechanical and metallurgical testing. Test raw materials and products to make sure they meet required levels of quality.  Conduct tensile strength and modulus to verify that the mechanical property of tensile strength of wrought aluminum products for sheet and plate rectangular test specimens meets customer specifications.
  • Create and maintain test procedures, analysis reports, testing record logs, samples/test piece photos or other supporting evidence used to support the outcome.  Analyze various samples (i.e. chemical and quench, deionized water, waste water composite, abrasive grit, other testing solutions, airborne particulate contamination, etc.) and methods used throughout the facility.
  • Control QA Lab chemicals for lot traceability, control of limited shelf life products and conduct Receipt Testing (i.e. Purchaser Quality Control and/or Shelf Life Testing of Time and Temperature Sensitive Materials, etc.)  
  • Perform probe checks and temperature uniformity surveys on various chemical processing tank, baths, ovens, etc.  Conduct qualifications, calibration and/or verification of the accuracy for various timers, contact surface resistance indicators, spot-weld machines, heat treat process recorders, autoclaves, etc.
  • Audit  in-house  production processes, products and paperwork to ensure compliance with engineering and/or customer specifications and compliance with applicable Federal and/or Provincial Regulations and Industrial License.  
  • Dispose of testing residue (i.e. salt fog test panels, metallographic samples, destructive test residue, tensile  tension  test samples). Perform clean-up and/or containment of hazardous material spills per environmental regulations and/or Company procedure/policy.
What You Will Bring:
  • Completion of Bachelor of Chemistry (BSC), or graduate of Recognized Laboratory Technician Program and/or equivalent experience and/or training;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of chemistry and/or chemical processes, Laboratory standards and testing methodologies and report writing
  • Knowledgeable of Laboratory cleaning standards and consumables.
  • Ability to perform calibrations on time measuring equipment and temperature-controlled equipment such as temperature uniformity surveys and system accuracy tests.
  • Knowledgeable of mathematics and demonstrated analytical ability;
  • Ability to read and interpret ASTM standards, customer specifications and regulatory requirements to define testing procedures, execute work instructions to the standard and analyze outcomes Must be able to work co-operatively with others and follow directives precisely.
