Metal Bond Subassembler (Full Time)
Department: All Openings, Manufacturing - Entry Level

Metal Bond Subassembler compensation range(based on experience level)$18- $27/hr

Metal Bond Subassembler I($18/hr-$19/hr)

  • Perform lay-up of composite pre-preg materials to conform to mold surfaces.
  • Cuts and splices materials with utility knife and/or scissors to aid in the fit of the lay-up to the mold.
  • Works materials with hands, fingers and hand tools to aid in the lay-up fit.
  • Cut and apply adhesive to details for bonding.
  • Select proper holding fixtures, bonding materials, proper size bleeders, bagging materials, and specified materials. Requires some judgment to fit and align component parts in proper sequence and specific location in bond fixture. Uses care to avoid contamination of surfaces from foreign substances such as dust or release agents.
  • Apply various adhesives to bond component parts together. Clamp and secure parts in holding fixtures. Use appropriate judgment to trim, fit, and seal bleeder and bag over areas to be bonded to obtain uniform vacuum pressure. Connect hoses to ports and check for leaks, wrinkles, tears, and proper seal.
  • Move tools and parts to and from ovens. Cut away bagging materials and remove excess material or tape from holding fixtures. Use measuring devices, and hand and power tools as required.
  • Mix and apply potting compounds.
  • Cut and apply core splice materials.
  • Assemble parts and details on less complex parts such as ribs, fairings, angles, closeouts, retainers, bezel assemblies, small bonded and prepreg assemblies.
  • Maintain the departments compliance with Piper QAM/QIM and FAA requirements.
  • Rework discrepancies as necessary.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts to improve the teams performance including schedule delivery, reduction of late work, elimination of quality defects & scrap, increasing productivity and generating cost reductions.
  • Partner with senior teammates within career path to receive and share practical knowledge for proper training to perform necessary job functions and requirements in order to attain satisfactory levels of performance and production effectivity.
  • Adhere and maintain all departmental compliance requirements such as Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned programs.
  • Perform duties as assigned by supervision.

Metal Bond Subassembler II($20/hr-$22/hr)

  • Assemble complex parts such as skin assemblies, wing skin assemblies, leading edges, doors, arch panels, duct halves, aft baggage, cabin headliners, M600 leading edges and frames.
  • Inspect and buy off own work using Piper inspection certifications, including torque requirements.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts to improve the teams performance including reduction of late work, elimination of quality defects & scrap, increasing productivity and generating cost reductions.
  • Ability to and willingness to receive and share practical knowledge, train, and mentor teammates within career path to perform necessary job functions and requirements in order to attain satisfactory levels of performance and production effectivity.
  • Adhere, maintain and assist teammates within career path to all departmental compliance requirements such as Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned programs.
  • Perform duties of lower graded position within Career Path and other duties as assigned by supervision.

Metal Bond Subassembler III($23/hr-$26/hr)

  • Assemble more complex and intricate parts such as cockpit sidewalls, upper entry door, wing tips, cabin armrest, M600 wing skins, cowls, glove skins, leading, Cherokee leading edges and cabin skins.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts to improve the teams performance including schedule delivery, reduction of late work, elimination of quality defects & scrap, increasing productivity and generating cost reductions.
  • Ability to and willingness to receive and share practical knowledge, train, cross-train and mentor teammates within career path to perform necessary job functions and requirements in order to attain satisfactory levels of performance and production effectivity.
  • Adhere, maintain, assist and train teammates within career path to all departmental compliance requirements such as Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned programs.
  • Perform duties of lower graded position within Career Path and other duties as assigned by supervision.

Senior Metal Bond Subassembler($27/hr)

  • Build all complex and intricate assemblies, subassemblies and prepreg parts.
  • Interact with Team Members & Pipers Manufacturing Support Teams as well as vendors, equipment suppliers, etc. when appropriate.
  • Rework major discrepancies as necessary. Performs Material Review Board and Standard repairs when needed. Assist in troubleshooting parts issues with the department or on the assembly lines when needed.
  • Inspect and buying off own and other Team Mates work using Piper inspection certifications.
  • Provide assistance when required during new product development, design, build and testing.
  • Acting as a technical liaison between Team Members & Pipers Manufacturing Support Teams as well as vendors, equipment suppliers, etc. when appropriate.
  • Assist with root cause and corrective action of nonconforming material in order to reduce defects and scrap material.
  • Assist in continuous improvement efforts to enhance the teams performance including reduction of late work, elimination of quality defects & scrap, productivity improvement initiatives and cost reductions.
  • Interface within the department to resolve quality concerns in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Perform audits of areas within the department as required to maintain compliance with all FAA and Piper operational requirements. Initiate related operational process or procedural corrective action, or request additional assistance from leadership or other support teams where necessary.
  • Serves as lead with the ability to guide and willingness to receive and share practical knowledge, train, cross-train and mentor teammates within career path to perform necessary job functions and requirements in order to attain satisfactory levels of performance and production effectivity.
  • Adhere, maintain, assist and train teammates within career path to all departmental compliance requirements such as Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned programs.
  • Perform duties of lower graded position within Career Path and other duties as assigned by supervision.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent

Related subassembler experience requirements:

o Metal Bond Subassembler I: 1 year of experience

o Metal Bond Subassembler II: 2 - 3 years of experience

o Metal Bond Subassembler III: 3 - 4 years of experience

o Senior Metal Bond Subassembler: 5 years of experience

Ability to work scheduled shift and hours, including overtime

Ability to work with minimal supervision

Use of hand and power tools as required

Follow all safety procedures

Ability to demonstrate sound judgement and effective communication skills (written and verbal).

Adhere to Piper Drawings, Process Specifications (PPS) and other manufacturing instructions
