Metallurgist

Job Description:

This role is a support function to help both internal and external customers resolve materials and processes issues in a quality, economic and timely manner. This includes supporting the following generic activities: new developments, winning of new business, new design activity, manufacturing of designed product and product support. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of metallurgical principles, manufacturing processes, and material properties related to landing gear components. This role requires expertise in reviewing engineering drawings, evaluating process techniques, and supporting Material Review Board (MRB) and Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) activities. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, quality, and production teams to ensure compliance with industry standards and customer requirement.

Job Requirements:

•\tExperience in aerospace metallurgy, specializing in landing gear manufacturing.
•\tStrong knowledge of high-strength steels, titanium, and aluminum alloys used in aerospace applications.
•\tExtensive experience with special processing techniques (heat treatment, surface treatments, coatings, etc.).
•\tProven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
•\tExcellent project management skills, including planning, execution, and cross-functional coordination.
•\tStrong communication, technical writing, analytical and problem-solving skills for documentation and reporting.
•\tSome experience in MRB, NCR resolution, and root cause analysis methodologies.
•\tStrong desire to meet defined role objectives in terms of quality, cost and delivery.
•\tDesire to be a generalist not a specialist.
•\tExcellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels.
•\tSelf-starter with proven influencing skills required.

Education &/or Certifications:
•\tBachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Material Science or a related field
•\tP. Eng license or eligible for APEO registration as a Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario

Work Experience:
•\t5+ years of experience in aerospace metallurgy, preferably in landing gear or structural components.
•\tStrong knowledge of metals and alloys used in aerospace applications, such as high-strength steels, titanium, and aluminum alloys.
•\tProficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.
•\tHands-on experience with heat treatment, coatings, forging, and machining processes.
•\tFamiliarity with MRB, NCR resolution, and root cause analysis methodologies.
•\tExperience working with aerospace industry standards (AMS, ASTM, SAE, NADCAP).
