Constructs and maintains concrete and asphalt runways, aircraft parking aprons, parking lots, pads and roads. Performs earthwork as necessary to prepare site for concrete and bituminous materials. Performs demolition of existing concrete and bituminous areas. Must have knowledgeable in equipment operations, hand tools and formwork for concrete and asphalt operations. Ensures compliance with all safety and environmental regulations.
Responsibilities
- Plans, constructs, and repairs airfield pavements, roads, streets, curbs, surface mats, membranes, and other improved areas using paving and surfacing procedures.
- Understands and can interpret blueprints and job plans.
- Mixes and places concrete and bituminous materials.
- Uses basic trade tools to pour, shape and screed concrete and asphalt to desire elevation.
- Constructs formwork prepares site for acceptance of concrete and bituminous materials. Uses mechanical and chemical means to stabilize and compact subgrade and base course. Understands use of prime coats and tack coats for asphalt construction.
- Understands concrete work, soil stabilization, and rigid and flexible pavement construction and maintenance techniques.
- Takes soil, aggregate, asphalt, and concrete samples for laboratory tests.
- Inspects pavements for surface, base, and sub-base damage or defects and identify root causes of pavement failures.
- Repairs damaged or defective areas by removing and replacing joint and crack sealant, surface overlays, and seal coats.
- Determines material and equipment requirements and prepares cost estimates for construction activities.
- Provides erosion control and drainage clearing.
- Installs, maintains and inspects all street/traffic signs, spanings and other informational devices.
- Constructs and repairs all levels of security fencing, guard rails and other security barriers.
- Constructs, repairs, maintains and inspects Fencing and other barriers that protect the installation.
- Performs snow and ice removal using snow & ice control vehicles and equipment. Applies chemicals and other ice control products.
- Interfaces with customers and is responsible for customer feedback, as applicable.
- Complies with applicable federal, state, United States Air Force (USAF) and Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) safety/environmental laws and regulations.
- Follows company furnished informational directives; Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); Policies and Procedures, and contract requirements.
- Incumbent will wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.

Qualifications
- Must have a minimum of a High School diploma or equivalency
- Must be knowledge of characteristics, capabilities, operation, and maintenance of equipment used in construction and paving; soil types, properties, limitations, and compaction methods; soil stabilization, drainage, and erosion control; construction and maintenance of asphalt and concrete surfaces; roadbeds; landscaping; safety and environmental concerns; and pavement maintenance plans.
- Must be physically able to perform all duties required: walking over uneven terrain, bending, and moving.
- Must demonstrate the ability to communicate ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing, with personnel at all levels
- Candidate must operate motor vehicles in accordance with company vehicle policies.
- Must have the ability to solve problems and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Must have the ability to adapt to changes in technology and applicable facility/infrastructure codes and standards.
- Must be able to deal with a variety of people in a professional & courteous manner in diverse situations.
- Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
Preferred Qualification:
- Experience w/USAF Pavements and Construction Equipment preferred
- Experience working on a military base preferred
- Ability to operate heavy construction equipment such as dozers, loaders, graders, backhoes and dump trucks preferred.
