As PhD Intern – Combustion, you will collaboratively work on combustion technology, research & development programs for aircraft engines. You will interact with personnel at GE Aerospace and Aerospace Research Center technologists and engineers to innovate for the future to deliver on our commitment to sustainability, safety and quality for our customers while advancing aerospace and defense for future generations.
This is a paid internship and is typically structured for a 3-month period or upon completion of PhD defense whichever is earlier. It may be extended or converted to a full-time employment based on performance, mutual interests, and business/program needs/funding.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Apply your knowledge in Combustion to develop innovative aerothermal/mechanical solutions for GE Aerospace portfolio
- Deliver on technical projects with guidance to meet project requirements
- Participate in a team on technology programs to enable future design advancements, while demonstrating independence in executing tasks leveraging your technical skills
Required Qualifications
- Submitted Ph.D. thesis in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering specializing in Combustion; you should have approval from your University & Doctoral Advisor to pursue this opportunity. Candidates pursuing graduate studies worldwide authorized to work in India are also welcomed to apply for this internship.
- Demonstrated fundamental knowledge in combustion as evidenced by advanced graduate coursework and research
- Demonstrated ability and experience in the areas of combustion dynamics, thermo-acoustics, emissions, combustion heat transfer
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
Desired Characteristics
- Experience in unsteady CFD – URANS and LES modelling
- Hands-on experience in combustor aerodynamics & heat transfer, at various levels of fidelity
- Experience in performing design trade-off studies and design optimization and/or system level modeling will be beneficial
- Knowledge of gas turbine combustion
