We’re looking for a Technology leader with a proven track record in leading enterprise software delivery adoption with DevOps principals. This leader will have an engineering first mindset and believe in providing a delightful self-service developer experience. They will be strategic in assessing industry technology trends, driving rapid incubation and adoption at American, while also being operationally focused in managing the service availability of American’s enterprise.

  • Understand technology trends in the industry and develop strategy based on spanet trends and customer sentiment.
  • Understand cloud architecture tradeoffs and constraints to prioritize the right work to enable software delivery.
  • Lead with a product mindset by setting the product vision driven by customer needs.
  • Establish and manage product roadmap that is aligned to the vision and sets direction for the product evolution.
  • Understand enterprise goals and set product level OKR’s and lead prioritization of backlog of work to achieve those outcomes.
  • Be a thought leader in full-stack development stimulating innovation and challenging the status quo.
  • Be an Influencer by bringing stakeholders, customers and squads around on a shared vision to meet the OKR’s. Focus on building consensus and buy-in.
  • Develop standardized ways to consume highly available and secure offerings across technology stacks and multiple cloud environments with a systems-thinking mindset.
  • Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines that empowers teams to efficiently manage the entire build and deployment process through intuitive self-service tools and workflows.
  • Manage the health, availability, security, and life cycle of core developer experience platform components across American with focus on automated CI/CD pipelines.
  • Manages vendor relationships and collaborates with vendor management for designing optimal software and hardware contracts.
  • Drive an open-source strategy for infrastructure at American, looking for every opportunity to replace legacy commercial solutions with open source options.
  • Champion InnerSource efforts to increase contributions around infrastructure as code and reusable components.
  • Guide infrastructure engineering community guilds to enable learning journeys.

All you’ll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required in Computer Science, Information Systems Management, or related field
  • 7 years of experience with infrastructure technologies and software development, leading to the deployment of cloud-based solutions while ensuring seamless integration with existing systems
  • Collaborate closely with development, security, operations teams, and key stakeholders to drive cohesive cloud integration, with a strong focus on CI/CD and secure software delivery
  • 3 years of technology leadership experience, including development, infrastructure, and architecture teams
  • 3 years of CI/CD pipeline experience including automation and integration managing customer facing, full-stack systems
  • 3 years of open-source software experience as either a project maintainer, developer, or contributor
  • 2 years of experience in leveraging Agile, DevOps, and Cloud practices to manage technology delivery
  • 3+ years of experience overseeing the development and management of CI/CD tools. Collaborating with cross-functional teams to implement security measures and maintain the integrity of key infrastructure components
  • Contribute to the Developer Experience platform by creating and enhancing applications and developing frontend and backend solutions using the latest technologies
  • Possesses expertise in the design, implementation, and deployment of CI/CD pipelines, specifically using GitHub Actions. Able to provide strategic input on automated testing, build, and deployment processes to ensure efficiency, scalability, and secure software delivery

Preferred Qualifications - Education & Prior Job Experience
  • Proven experience in growing engineering practices such as Infrastructure as code, containerization, source control management, CI/CD, and Infrastructure test automation
  • Proven ability to manage internal and external resources, as well as manage relationships with 3rd party providers and partners
  • Demonstrated ability to solve, and to lead others in solving, complex analytical problems
  • Willingness to take calculated risks
