The Retail Intern will provide exceptional customer service by greeting each customer, fostering a friendly atmosphere, having proper knowledge of merchandise both in the physical store and on the website, and offering assistance to customers.

This internship will be onsite in Knoxville, TN from May 2025 through August 2025.

The Retail Intern is responsible for attending to customers (both internal and external) and maintaining good customer service in a retail environment, via the website, and occasionally during off site events. They will ring up sales on the point-of-sale cash register, handles various forms of payment including coupons, customer experience, bill outs, and they process refunds, exchanges and voids. The Retail Intern will also issue gift certificates, process web orders, ship domestic and international shipments, and offer assistance for merchandise sold on behalf of a variety departments.

Retail Interns receive merchandise, display merchandise, complete price changes or markdowns on seasonal or damaged items by changing the signs or tags to reflect the current price. They may be required to assist in preparations for Air Show events by ticketing, packing, tracking, presenting, and occasionally selling merchandise at the event. Specifically, the Retail intern will play an important role at the EAA Air Venture event in July.

The Retail Intern is responsible for properly processing transactions to ensure accurate inventory at month end/year end and participate in quarterly inventory counts.

They may be required to perform store opening duties, store closing duties at end of shift, and provide the accounting department both daily reports and month end reports. At the end of the shift, the Retail Intern reconciles accounts to ensure that the sales tally equals the items sold. If there are any shortages, the intern must determine the cause and take steps to correct the situation.

  • Must be pursuing relevant degree in retail, supply chain management, business administration, or related field.
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Prior retail experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience delivering excellent customer service preferred.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgement and effective communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to effectively manage stress, including competing work demands and multiple projects at the same time.
