Nightwing is seeking a Developer Intern for the summer of 2025, supporting the High Consequence Missions (HCM) business area in Dulles, VirginiaAs a Developer Intern, you will work with our development team to contribute to real-world projects, gaining exposure to both front-end and back-end development.  You will have the opportunity to develop your coding skills, collaborate in a professional setting, and learn how web applications are built and maintained.

This is a HYBRID Position.

Key Responsibilities

- Contribute to the development and maintenance of Ruby on Rails applications, focusing on both front-end and back-end features

- Write clean, efficient Ruby code for server-side logic and implement business functionality

- Build and enhance front-end components using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript

- Work with relational databases like PostgreSQL

- Participate in troubleshooting, debugging, and resolving issues in both the front-end and back-end code

- Collaborate with team members to understand and implement project requirements

- Learn and apply Agile development practices by participating in sprints, stand-ups, and code reviews

Requirements

- Currently enrolled in a Bachelors or Masters program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field

- Have programming experience (in a class, for fun, or at a job)

- Knowledge of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)

- Familiarity with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL

- Strong desire to learn and improve coding skills.

- Good communication skills and willingness to collaborate with a team

- GPA of 3.0+ on a 4.0 grade scale

- Must be a U.S. Citizen and willing/able to obtain a U.S. government issued security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

- Exposure to any MVC (Model-View-Controller) web framework (e.g., Ruby on Rails, Django, ASP.NET, Laravel). Our team uses Ruby on Rails

- Prior experience with any web development framework or language through personal projects, coursework, or internships

- Familiarity with Git or other version control systems

- Exposure to Agile methodologies and an interest in working within a structured development process.

- Knowledge of JavaScript and jQuery for building interactive user interfaces
